"Contacted Home Genius through Angie’s List to replace the siding and gutters on my house and agreed to an appointment. I liked the sales pitch but had to cut it short (to an hour) as I had to go pick up my son. The sales ‘expert’ said he’d send me a quote along with other pertinent information the next day. After a week with no word, I called back and received an apology from customer service and was guaranteed to hear back regarding the quote within 48 hours. Another week passed and I called again. Got the same treatment from customer service along with the same promise of contact within 48 hours. It’s been another week now and obviously they have no intention of following up on this. Can’t speak to the work they do but pre-sale work is lacking."

Secondly, a light pressure wash to the surface will gently wash away the dirt, mold, organics, and mildews to prepare the surface for the coating. While the new deck looked OK, there were missed areas on the existing porch. The quality of the staining itself was variable - there were areas where they did a great job, and others that were missed, overlooked, or intentionally ignored. The eaves were among the intentionally ignored, and I was told "that's defined as part of the roof structure, which isn't included." Excuse me, but the contract says "clean and stain exterior of screen porch" - it does not say "screen porch walls only." Another ignored area was the top edge of the fascia and floorboards, which they stained above, and below, leaving a gap. And there were several other spots that were overlooked even after a visit to complete punch list items. I asked multiple times to talk to the owner but he never called me back. Next time I'll just hire a real house painter."

As for his work, the words “top-notch”, “first-rate” come to mind. He and his crew are outstanding professionals. The whole construction was done with such care and proficiency. My husband and I are delighted with the result. Hugo’s work was not inexpensive but I did not want to end up with a car port ! Considering that we got exactly what we wanted, with the quality of both material and workmanship, we felt it was a fair deal. Also, I appreciated Hugo’s passion for his own work and the advice of an experienced builder. As a bonus, he was completely trustworthy, showing up when he said he would, meeting all date-lines, explaining small delays while waiting for Inspections from our County, etc… and taking care of “everything”, like permits or attending to last minute requests. And then, there is another aspect of the total experience: giving us peace of mind instead of worries.. That, to me, was very valuable."
