Solar Solutions","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"NC","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Jim S."},"reviewBody":"When we built our house 20 years ago we couldn?t afford solar PV, but we wanted it, and oriented the house to accommodate it, if and when we could make it happen. We were finally moved to make it happen in 2014, with the threat of disappearing state and federal tax credits, the improvements in solar PV efficiency, and the grass-roots intelligence of our Orange County, N.C Solarize program. We connected with our local Solarize program in the early summer of 2014, and were introduced to Yes! Solar as one of the two local Solarize providers vetted by Solarize volunteer specialists to be deemed the most trustworthy and effective providers for Solarize participants. So we ?bought in? without hesitation when Solarize gave us Yes! Solar as our Solarize PV provider. As soon as Solarize connected us to Yes! Solar Solutions, the company immediately made corporate and personal investments in hand-holding, to help us, as clients/customers, find comfort in this seemingly risky arena of putting some $25,000 in up-front money into this idea of gleaning electric power from the sun. We?d already done a lot of research, and understood that every installation is different. Each of us has variations in roof orientation and slope, solar access, tree incursion, and family philosophy on tree huggery. Fortunately, we found, early in our relationship with Yes! Solar, that this is a company that has grown with the technology and dealt with it all. From our initial contacts and home visit from a Yes! Solar energy specialist through completion of our 6.2 kWh, 24-panel system in October 2015, we have been truly impressed with the professionalism, accessibility and friendliness of the entire Yes! Solar team. Here?s what we have experienced: We started using our system as daylight hours were approaching their minimum for the year, and it has also been an unusually rainy, cloudy span up to this writing (late-January, 2016). However, the real-time monitoring shows that it?s working as planned. Ours is a mostly electric home (though we also heat with a wood stove in winter). Our first three electric bills since commissioning the PV system were about $100 each less than the same months the previous year. Some of that savings, however, must be attributed to our new water heater. Just after we installed the solar, our 20-year-old water heater started leaking, so we replaced it with a hybrid (heat pump-type) high-efficiency heater. But most of the cost reduction is coming from the PV installation. We?re looking forward to watching our solar returns mount as spring turns to summer, with longer days and higher sun elevation. We?re on time-of-day usage plan with our Piedmont EMC electric co-op, meaning we pay a penalty for power used during peak load times, but a lot less the rest of the time. In cold months, peak load is 6 to 10 a.m. ? unfortunately, a time of very little solar generation. In warm months, however, it?s 1 to 6 p.m. And that?s also when our PV system will generate peak power, routinely reversing our meter. So the best is yet to come. We expect the payback on this system to be 10 to 11 years, followed by 10 to 15 years of escalating cost savings on our utility bills. Meanwhile, we?ve already experienced a great business relationship with Yes! Solar Solutions. They did what they said they?d do, when they said they?d do it, in a highly professional manner. Everyone involved, from owners/founders Kathy and Stew Miller to Austin Crumpler (the energy specialist now, alas, studying in Thailand) to Bethany Theede, Rob Smith, Kyle Thomas, Brian Chavez and everyone on the installation team. All were courteous, smart, great to deal with. We couldn?t have asked for more. Bottom line, if you plan to install solar PV (or solar water heating) in the area served by Yes! Solar Solutions, you?ll do yourself a serious disservice if you don?t check into this organization. This is a class act, competitively priced, with the expertise and professional chops to do what you need done with honesty, integrity and personality. We promise we?re not related to any of these people, nor are we paid by them to hoot on them. We?re just glad we found them and hired them. Our roof looks great and works great, grabbing any available sunshine every day and turning it into safe, no-carbon electricity that we hope our grandson will be able to enjoy as breathable air for his lifetime ? and beyond. They gave us a clear and detailed estimate and discussed linear pattern and lighting options. They kept strictly to their schedule and let us know in advance when a crew was to appear on our property. Unfortunately, an old electrical conduit under the concrete pad around the pool had collapsed, so that it was necessary to cut the concrete and dig it out and replace it. This was extra. But they discussed it with us in advance, and it was nicely done. The job went quickly with no apparent problems. It looked beautiful when done. In the early fall after the new liner was installed, I noticed that the water level was dropping too quickly. After talking to the owner, Scott Hoffman, about it and measuring the rate of drop, he agreed that there was likely a leak. He arranged to have a subcontractor detect the location of the leak. It turned out to be at stairs. We were sent a bill for $400. I queried the bill, thinking that it was in fact a warranty issue. While Mr. Hoffman said that he did not think that the leak was related to the liner installation, without any argument, he cancelled the bill. We agreed that he could repair the leak when the water was warmer in the spring, and that we would determine whether it was a warranty issue in light of what was actually needed to make the repair. However, when the spring came and I opened the pool, I again measured the water loss. It had essentially stopped. I really don't know what happened to the leak -- its existence was confirmed by the professionals, but it seems to be gone now (2015). In light of the mysterious self-healing of the pool and the fact that I did not give Aqua Haven a chance to look at the leak site again, I paid the $400 in the summer. Aqua Haven was one of the most professional contractors -- business-like and efficient -- that I have had the pleasure to use. We had some pretty bad ice dam issues last winter and had him out in the winter to do an estimate...as well as the general issue that our attic is super hot in summer and cold in the winter (lots of leaks and little insulation). However, we didn't get the work done until August. We obtained three estimates for this work. Steve used an instrument to detect temperature in the walls/attic spaces. His estimate was in line with other estimates I got, but more so than others, he took the time to explain the likely issues in the house and how he'd handle them. I'm not an insulation expert but did a fair amount of reading on-line...his explanations were more thorough and reflected common issues with the style of house (e.g., sealing rafters that go under the floor in second story bungalows...a big issue for heat loss but not at all addressed by one of the other guys). He was the only one to take careful measurements and map out room dimensions, during estimation, to figure out what things would take. There were some issues he encountered along the way which he handled. It changed the work up a little but he didn't try to charge extra for it. I think he assumes that there'll always be some novel problem solving on these jobs with old houses. He even fixed a couple of the roof vents that our roofers had installed incorrectly (holes too small for vent size). He did a pre- post- blower door test to show improvement in leaking..although my major concern is ice dams and we won't know about that for a bit...will update after this winter. I noticed some of the other comments about responsiveness...and I can say that Steve (the owner) can take a little time (a few days) to respond to calls/e-mails. When things were scheduled (estimate and work), he was on time as scheduled. The person in the office is a little quicker than Steve. This said, when he was with us and/or doing the work, he was completely engaged with me, my wife, and our questions - and completely engaged in the work. He didn't just drop off a crew to do the job; he was part of the crew doing the work the entire day. He struck me as quite conscientious in making sure a good job was done. Very thorough. I wanted an inspection to get an idea of what I might need to pay attention to in preparing my home for a possible sale. I was also able to get a radon test and termite inspection through them. They were well worth it.

Home inspection part seemed to go fine but not very detailed oriented. The Radon inspection was suspect. He placed the unit in a small closed off room and ran the test during a 2 and a half day storm. The results came back and they were very strange and off the charts. Unfortunately this...

I hired Norato to replace my asphalt shingle roof, which was about 25 years old and showing a lot of wear. I notified the appraiser of the one known leak I had around the chimney. This was of great concern, since it would always drip through the ceiling during a heavy rain. He told me that...

"Lesson learned. Always get an estimate. BEFORE the work is done. At least a digital copy. Arrangements for the project were made, with some one named Lynn, for the company to send someone to complete the work. We were quoted over the phone 4500-5000 which included a mold test. A sub contractor with an entirely different company (National Mold Company) was sent. When the contractor arrived, he stated that the job would be much more simpler than first thought. This led us to believe that the job would cost less, no. All said and done, they charged $5500. All said and done, it's almost like no work was done. The stains and the smell are still there. Only one actual board was taken upon the attic room. The ceiling in the bedroom was primed and painted but are still visible and have a funky smell. At this point I'm going to. Do what we should have done; Do the job ourselves. Just now with $5500 less dollars in our pockets. A detailed receipt was not given even though it was requested."

FAQs for radon detection and reduction projects in Moncure, NC
If radon is present in your home, you can expect to pay around $1,000 for a radon mitigation system or between $780 and $1,250 in most cases. The exact price will depend on the severity of the radon leak, home size, and the protocol the radon specialist develops to remove radon from your home and keep it out. Your foundation type will also affect your radon mitigation system cost, as unfinished basements will cost about $4,600 to seal and ventilate, while crawl spaces without a foundation slab may need extra encapsulation, costing $1,500 to $15,000.
You can buy DIY radon test kits from a home improvement store and conduct radon testing, but these tests are often inaccurate. No matter the result, you should supplement DIY testing with professional radon detection and analysis. DIYers only have access to passive radon tests, which aren’t as reliable as active tests that professionals use. Plus, it’s very easy for DIYers to make mistakes during testing, leading to inaccurate results. If you’re moving into a new home, have concerns about radon, or are due for an updated test, hire a professional.
Radon testing costs depend on whether you hire a professional radon inspector or DIY test. You can expect to pay $150 to $800 to hire a local radon inspector, and home-testing kits range in price from $15 to $250 from home improvement stores. However, it’s best to trust a professional inspector with this task to ensure accurate results. Plus, if you have radon in your home, your testing company can develop a mitigation protocol to keep you and your family safe from the dangerous gas, so it’s well worth the money to hire a professional.
Yes, radon testing is absolutely necessary if you suspect the presence of this hazardous gas, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends testing for all homes in the country. Radon is a pervasive natural gas that can leak through your home’s foundation and seep into the living areas. Unfortunately, the gas is highly carcinogenic and is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon testing is crucial for keeping you and your family safe from harm, so hire a radon mitigation specialist to test your home if you suspect its presence in your home.
In most states, radon testing companies don’t need to be licensed or certified by the state, but the companies that analyze the test results and develop radon mitigation protocols do. You should choose a radon testing company that suits your needs, but before hiring a mitigation specialist, check our state licensing tool to make sure the company is properly certified.
