Scott was always available to answer my questions and provided clear, detailed explanations about the different insulation options available. This made it easy for me to make the best decision for myself. Their knowledge about insulation materials and techniques was impressive. "I like the product so far. It is insulation so I will not know the full effectiveness for awhile. Installation was fine.a little mess, but this a very messy product by nature. My biggest concerns were all related to customer service and communication. Promises to call me tomorrow really meant never. Sales side of the company and the install side did not coordinate effectively..so my install appt had to be rescheduled. When the e-billing came, there was nothing on the invoice allowing me to pay..no address, no phone#, No pay here button, etc. It was just clearly a company living in disorganization. Even the company truck had out of date license plates. I think the product will be good and the value is solid. Just be very clear in your communication expectations if you choose this company."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Yes, you should insulate your copper pipes to help regulate their temperature. Well-insulated copper pipes will be protected from freezing and can conserve energy by keeping hot water warm for longer. Foam rubber insulation tubes are the best pipe insulation to prevent freezing since they fit tightly around the pipes while still maintaining some flexibility.

Plaster itself has a higher R-value than drywall. However, there are other considerations surrounding plaster and insulation. As a general rule, it's easier to obtain consistency in insulating value and quality when working with drywall rather than plaster. Plaster walls often don't contain any insulation behind the wall covering by design, and careful evaluation is necessary when choosing to add it.

There are many reasons one bedroom may be hotter than the rest of the house. The sun will quickly heat a south-facing bedroom with a large window, especially if it lacks quality curtains. If the room has poor insulation, this could let more warm outside air in. Upstairs bedrooms are often hotter than ground-floor rooms because heat rises. Finally, rooms further away from the air conditioning unit may heat up a lot if the system is not properly balanced.

Yes. Bathroom insulation requires a vapor barrier. As a matter of fact, bathrooms and kitchens are the two areas of the home that should always get a vapor barrier because of the excess moisture. If you don’t have a vapor barrier in place in these rooms, the moisture will build up and eventually lead to mold and bacteria, not to mention the destruction of the insulation.

On average, insulating an attic costs about $2,500, with a typical range of $1,500 to $3,500. The final price often depends on the attic's size, with costs generally falling between $1 to $3 per square foot. For example, insulating a 1,800-square-foot attic would likely cost between $1,800 and $5,400.

If the project involves removing old insulation, this can add an average of $900 to the total cost, bringing a full removal and reinsulation project to around $3,000.

Several factors influence the overall cost:

  • Insulation Type: Prices per square foot vary significantly by material.

  • Reflective: $0.50–$1.50

  • Blown-in: $1–$4

  • Batt: $2–$4

  • Loose-fill: $2–$5

  • Spray foam: $2–$5

  • Structural insulated panels (SIPs): $4–$7

  • Project Complexity: Factors like sealing air leaks, poor attic accessibility, and required inspections can add to the cost.

  • Removal Issues: The discovery of mold, asbestos, or pests during the removal of old insulation can substantially increase the price.
