"My gravel driveway in Black Mountain, NC had needed repairs for a long time and the situation became much worse after a plumbing company installed a new sewer line under it. I contacted David Gibson about repairing the driveway as he had previously done excellent work in fixing my foundation that was settling. David and his crew arrived when expected and had to excavate and install extra sub base and gravel due to the much deteriorated condition of my driveway. I am very pleased with the work and I highly recommend him for fixing any driveway or foundation problems."

"I was so lucky K & B had a hole in their scheduling for January and they came the next day. I had three walls of brick to be removed, they protected my wood floors and had their sheet rock guy and electrician come after the demo and redesign it. I would hire them again in a minute."

"Out of the 6 to 8 pros recommended Caleb was the only one to reach out and glad he did. He was able to give me a time within a 2 week window, arrived on time and did a fantastic job. I would highly recommend him for your project."

"I hired Capps Excavation to cut in a new driveway and he did an amazing job. Took down a few big trees that were in the way and that didn't phase them at all. It was on a pretty step slope and they handled it like it was nothing. I wouldn't think twice about hiring them again or recommending them to someone for any excavation, landscaping or tree work!"

"Austin from Fox Creek Construction & Grading did a fantastic job with clearing our land for our homestead! Our property was clear cut many years ago and when we purchased it, we were unaware that the previous contractor left all of the debris piled high in the center of the property; to say it was a mountain of mess is an understatement! Austin got to work on that and had it under control in one day, splitting it up into piles for burning was just part of his great work on the land to create room for the gardens and orchards to come. I would 100% recommend his company for any clearing, or other land work you might need. They were reasonably priced and so friendly to work with. He transformed our place, allowing us to get on with our plans for the homestead. Thanks again Austin- you did a wonderful job!"

"We had major hurricane damage from hurricane Helene, where our entire land was devastated with hundreds maybe even thousands of trees. Dylan and his team came in and worked efficiently and proficiently received suggestions and when we had concerns, they went above and beyond to complete the job. We plan to have them back in the future for more projects."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can technically make a crawl space liveable, but the only way to do so is by converting it into a basement. While some crawl spaces are big enough to walk through and store large items, they lack appropriate insulation and space to be liveable.

In most areas, you will need a permit for excavation work, even for projects that only involve grading or yard leveling. Permit requirements depend on your local government and the scope of the project, but they are especially common for significant digging or work that could affect utilities or public property. These permits help protect the local topography and prevent drainage issues. An experienced excavation company will typically know whether permits are needed and can often handle the process of pulling and closing them for you. You can also verify permit requirements by contacting your local building department and describing your project.

As a general rule, the protected area should be about 1½ times as wide as the canopy of the tree’s leaves. This digging measurement can vary by tree species and the age of the tree. Of course, that can be a lot of fencing for larger trees, which is why our first step is about making difficult decisions on which trees to save.

Depth is not a qualifying component of evacuation. Any human-made cut, cavity, or depression in the earth’s surface is considered excavation. The hole from excavation can be any size, shape, or depth. Excavation is used to create foundations, reservoirs, drainage ditches, and roads. Long, narrow excavations are called trenches and are often used for underground utilities.

A joint utility trench, or joint trench, is a long, buried ditch on a property that contains two or more utility lines rather than running the lines in multiple trenches. Some utilities, like gas and electric or electric and communication lines, are better suited to joint trenching, while others, like water and sewer, are not allowed to be in the same trench.
