"I highly recommend this excavating company! They were professional, dependable, and did an excellent job from start to finish. They communicated clearly, showed up when promised, and made sure everything was completed properly. The finished work looks great, and they left the property clean and organized. I would definitely use them again!"

"I was so lucky K & B had a hole in their scheduling for January and they came the next day. I had three walls of brick to be removed, they protected my wood floors and had their sheet rock guy and electrician come after the demo and redesign it. I would hire them again in a minute."

"I hired this company for tree removal, and they did an outstanding job from start to finish. They safely removed several large trees from my property, worked efficiently, and handled everything with great care. The crew was knowledgeable, well-organized, and made sure the area was completely clean before they left. Excellent service—highly recommended for any tree removal needs!"

"Jared and his crew were prompt, showed up when they said they would and completed the job on time, cleaned up at the end of every day. They were professional and friendly, always willing to talk the project over with us. First class crew that I would recommend to anyone that asks! Also, priced very reasonably....Well done!"

Super Service Award Winner

Customers say: Super punctual

"Zack, the owner, and his crews are incredible! I have a very steep driveway and hillside at the front of my WNC mountain home. They repaired a badly damaged wood retaining wall then properly excavated, provided drainage, backfilled and secured new posts with deadman anchoring. This is my third project using ZR Landscaping. They are always on time, professional, courteous, hard working, reliable and provide a great project outcome at a fair price. I highly recommend ZR Landscaping!"

"Kevin is dedicated to making sure that a job is done correctly. I had a 12 foot sinkhole that revealed itself 10 feet from my house. Kevin understood the urgency of the situation, but also took the time to make sure we knew what we were dealing with. Itâ s rare to find good caring people that are willing to show up and get a job done the right way. Thanks for all your help Kevin!"

"This company was very responsive---if I left a message, the call back was prompt, when we had questions or concerns---there were creative solutions, awesome options and a positive, professional demeanor. This was by far, the best experience we have had with a contractor! The quality of work and attention to detail was outstanding and most important to me---I felt heard! The vision we had of the finished project was respected and every effort was made to bring it to fruition. We could not be happier..."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

While you can save some money by digging your own pool, you may end up paying more in construction equipment rental fees in the long run. You could, however, focus your DIY energies on lowering the cost of leveling your lawn for your pool or filling in surrounding landscaping after construction.

No, you typically cannot use metal detectors to find your sewer line. Most sewer lines are made of non-metallic materials such as PVC, clay, or cast iron, which are not detectable by standard metal detectors. Metal detectors are designed to locate metallic objects, so they won't be effective for identifying the path of a non-metallic sewer line. To locate your sewer line accurately, it's best to use other methods.

No, a ditch isn’t a trench. A ditch is an open, relatively shallow channel that’s carved out of the ground and used for drainage purposes. In contrast, a trench is a deeper excavation that’s entirely underground. Trenches have many uses, including gas lines, sewage systems, and electrical wiring. Unlike trenches, ditches don’t get filled back in with dirt after they’re dug.

The rules for trenching and excavation include setting up and following safety protocols, learning how to use tools and machines properly, and ensuring there is a safe exit for all workers. Keep heavy equipment and materials away from the edge of the hole or trench. Call the 811 dig line before starting any excavation or trenching project to ensure you don’t hit any electrical or gas lines.

The best method for digging a trench depends on the scope of the project. For a short, shallow trench (less than 2 feet deep) in light, soft soil, digging by hand may be sufficient. However, digging by hand is labor-intensive, so consider the effort required. A machine trencher is the better option for longer trenches (over 100 feet), deeper ones, or when dealing with difficult soil conditions, such as rocky or hard ground, or obstructions like tree roots. A machine can save significant time and energy in these situations.
