"We were very happy to find such a gem of a contractor. No money was asked for prior to work starting. Every minute we waited for them to begin was worth it. We were patient with their schedule and was worth the wait. The good contractors are always booked up and will take longer to get started. Weather played a factor in the delay, but nobody can control that. The father/son crew that did the work were professional and paid attention to detail. The quality of the work along with the awesome pricing sets this contractor apart from all the competition. You will be very happy if you select S&S to be your siding/door/window home improvement experts. We cannot say enough good things about Shirley and her staff"

"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"Chuck Haley is great.  He listens well, is confident, and honest.  He admits he's not the cheapest, but will tell you why.  His crew is fairly experienced, but there was one guy on the crew who was brand-new.  I understand that he has to manage labor costs and not everyone can be a 15+ year journeyman carpenter.  Chuck Haley will tell you that they fully understand the details and requirements of installing Hardie, where he thinks others are not as competent and detail-oriented.  It seemed like a sound argument to me. Chuck tried hard to get us to consider using vinyl siding instead of Hardie (it's cheaper, and a quicker install), but we liked the look of Hardie much better.
Price-wise, I think it was fair.  I got him to come down somewhat from his initial quote; he told me a few times that he wasn't making much money on my job.  I have no idea.  I'm certain I could've gotten a cheaper contractor, but I feel I got a good value here.
All of the work was to be done outside (although they needed access to the inside to do the windows).  The weather did not cooperate in the late winter/early spring of 2013, so it took them a while to finish the work.  But, strangely to me, when there was good weather, they did not show up early and stay late to try to meet their schedule.  Perhaps they did not stay late because they didn't want to disturb us after the kids got home - if so, that was thoughtful...I'm just not sure.
Finished product has been great so far, with one possible exception (below).  I can tell where the experienced guys did the caulking vs the inexperienced guys.  They took care of our yard, and there were no problems with them being inside.
The only potential problem is that there is some rain water dripping down from one of the soffits from time to time, like it's not being caught by the gutter or something.  I called and asked them to come take a look, but they did not make it out.  I haven't followed up again.  There have been quite a few nails that are laying around the house that I've had to pick up - I wish they would've used a big magnet to try to get more of those up.
Overall, the house looks great, the windows slide nicely and have much better features (he recommends/uses a smaller and cheaper window manufacturer than a Pella or Anderson or other big brand name).  I am happy and would recommend Haley Hahn.  Chuck was recommended to me by a contractor friend of mine who subs out this kind of work.

"Our is 2.5 storey and steep roof. Owner visited and without getting on roof told me that you need to replace 2 flashings. The house is 9 years old and according to him ( I am not sure) it is better to replace flashing after 10-12 years any way. I think flashing should have same about 30 years life of roof. However, I accepted the recommendation as cost was $150. Also, I don't think they inspected or did anything on other side of the roof. He sent Brian in the following week to carry out work. Brian is really hardworking honest guy. He spent about 4 hours on roof to replace flashing and nail down singhles on one side of roof. I was not happy since they didn't even look at other side of roof. Since my $200 +79 was worth their effort of 4 hours I am OK with the service provided. However, I felt that they are giving this deal to generate more business. and chnging of flushing was not necessary. Anyway I was happy with Brian and hence I am giving A other wise I would have given B."

"Crossover Roofing is an outstanding company and performed beyond expectations. We are so glad we used Angie's List to find them. Ryan came out to provide us an estimated and was very thorough,, patient, and helpful. We got a total of 3 estimates, all form Angie's List - so they were all good. But we felt Crossover provided a very competitive price and provided a very through explanation of the service to be provided -plus was able to take on responsibility for replacing the previous siding next to our dormers, which were in significant need of replacement. They were so very helpful and flexible in establishing a schedule that worked for us. In actual performance, they were excellent, careful, and timely. We have had numerous people comment very positively on the finished product - almost like a new house! A job really well done. We highly recommend Crossover Roofing."

"Tom screened in our existing covered porch for us. I initially contacted him via Angie's List and then received a phone call to set up an appointment. Tom recommended we use solar screens vs. traditional screens and I'm so glad we did. We went with the 80% UV blockage screens in brown. They also provide some privacy from the outside looking in, which wasn't a big concern for us but it a nice plus. Tom and 1 other employee completed the work in two (very hot!) days. He also built us a custom screen door using Douglas Fir to match the existing deck wood. We couldn't be happier with the finished product and will likely hire Tom for additional projects around the house."

Siding questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install stucco siding on a home is around $5,700, with most homeowners paying between $2,200 and $9,100. However, the total cost can range from $750 to as high as $22,750 depending on several factors. On average, you can expect to pay between $7 and $9 per square foot. Key cost factors include the size and complexity of your home, the desired color and texture, labor and material costs in your area, and whether you have a multi-story home. Specific applications have different costs, such as adding stucco over brick ($7 per square foot) or over wood siding ($8.50 per square foot). To save money, you can consider removing the old siding yourself or scheduling the installation during the off-season.

Yes, it is common for mold to grow on the underside of the siding due to the moist atmosphere. When there is an abundance of moisture, mold has the ideal environment to spread and thrive. This fungus can be found on virtually any surface, both indoors and outdoors. Generally, it is most active when the environment is warm, damp, and humid.

Choosing siding combinations that look good together comes down to finding textures and colors that complement each other. You want some contrast so that your home doesn’t look boring or too uniform, but you also want the materials to play off of each other so that each makes the other stand out. It’s a good idea to hire a siding professional to create 3D renderings for you so you can get a sense of what your home will look and feel like before you get started.

If you have stucco on the outside of your home, it’s technically considered cladding and not siding, but beyond that, it’s impossible to tell without a little digging. Without damaging the siding material, expose part of it to see if there’s an air gap between the siding and your exterior wall. If there is, you have cladding. If the siding is affixed directly to the exterior wall, you have a simple siding system.

OSB is a common material used in sheathing, so when OSB prices go up, so does the cost of sheathing. Depending on the economy and supply chain, increased costs can reduce demand, though some homeowners proceed with their projects despite the elevated expenses.
