"My installer, Jose, was amazing! He was so accommodating to fit my schedule in a short timeframe. Jose was professional and very knowledgeable about installing tile. He installed my tile quickly and was very clean while working. I would definitely recommend Jose for tile work. Jose is also a great handyman because he also installed my TV on the wall which was difficult to do because the wall was covered in porcelain tile. THANK YOU, JOSE!! YOU ARE AMAZING!!!"

"I have been trying all weekend to put into words how impressed I am with Ashia Tile & Marble. First let me start off by saying that, I had not updated my home in 12 years. I kind of knew what I wanted, but found it hard to explain. Alvin seemed to read my mind! I reached out to Ashia Tile after reading every review on Home Advisor. I was hoping that with such great reviews and pictures of the work he performed he would not be out of my price range. I had already received several quotes from other installers, but none gave me the confidence I felt after reading how many satisfied customers Alvin and his crew had. I contacted Ashia Tile on Thursday and Alvin and Michelle were at my home by Saturday morning to measure and give me estimates. He left me tile samples and worked with me on pricing. I will tell you that his prices are fair and I promise you that you will get much more out of his team than a typical tile installer! First, I had to do nothing...and I mean nothing. They moved my furniture, tiled my floors, grouted, etc. all while I was at work. Everyday I came home excited to see how much had been done. They were done on time. I had my entire first level and fireplace tiled in 5 days. There were no delays and the quality of the work was EXCEPTIONAL! Danny and Eugene worked tirelessly on my home, they left the work area neat and clean everyday and always made sure we had a path to walk so that we could actually live in our home. Alvin and his crew provided the tile for the floor and all other materials. The only material I provided was stainless steel tile for my fireplace. Everyday Alvin called before they started work to see if I had any questions or concerns. Needless to say, I had very few. They handled everything! Words can not express how pleased I am with Ashia Tile. He was willing to make even the smallest of changes and always assured me that his goal was to make sure I was happy with the work. They truly went above and beyond! I will definitely be using their services again and recommending them to all of my friends."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

When working on your bathroom floor tiling, you should always tile the floor first and then refit the toilet afterward. This has both practical and visual advantages—the tile will have a better seal, and the installation will look cleaner.

On the other hand, when you try to cut the tiles to fit around the toilet, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s a lot more work, it’s hard to be precise, and mistakes or miscalculations can lead to future moisture damage to the tiling, grout, and subfloor.

Penny tile should be sealed to protect the grout from moisture and keep stains from damaging the look of the tile. If penny tile is in a humid or high-traffic area, like a bathroom, kitchen, or entryway, it needs sealant. Any type of tile and grout is best maintained with a sealant reapplied by a pro every one to two years.

No, tiling over painted walls or wallpapered surfaces is generally not recommended. Textured surfaces and paints will affect the adhesive, possibly causing tiles to lift or fall off. Painted walls with a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish are particularly difficult for adding tiles. It’s wise to strip the paint first if you install the tiles to drywall, although it’s still best to opt for a cement backer board.

Installing kitchen countertop tiles on a mold and moisture-resistant cement backer board is one of the best options. When fitted correctly on top of a plywood base, it’s stable and long-lasting. Old-fashioned cement board is economical, cuts neatly and easily with a circular or jigsaw, and screws into plywood without any difficulty.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from clay, but porcelain tiles are fired in a kiln at a higher temperature. This makes them more durable, but it also means porcelain is more expensive than ceramic at $3 to $5 more per square foot.

Even with the higher price point, many people choose porcelain over ceramic because there are more color and design options.
