"We’ve been enjoying our wonderful new master bath for just over a month now and wanted to share our strongest recommendation for Rich and his team for others looking for a top-quality tile professional. Like most people, given the significant expense involved in renovating a master bathroom, we spoke with several tile firms before making our final decision. Rich really stood out by focusing on what we considered the critical aspects of the work (e.g. waterproofing and durability). He walked us through the entire process up front, set realistic work timeframe expectations and really minimized the impact on our family throughout the 2+ week work period. What we really appreciated was Rich’s overall knowledge on everything relating to our remodel. He provided assistance to both our plumber who came in to relocate some pipes and our shower glass specialist in making the whole project just perfect. This is in addition to providing invaluable feedback to us as we were making our final tile selections on things like installation patterns, storage considerations etc. Rich came in with a very competitive price for the project – right in the middle of the range of quotes we received, but frankly we would have selected him to work with even if he was the higher priced option just based on the confidence he inspired up front and then completely delivered on and then some. We ended up expanding our project to include a guest bathroom as well and could not be happier with all the results. We are thankful for the hard work that Rich and his team performed and appreciate the skill and care they provided during the renovation. Can't wait to have him back to install a new kitchen backsplash! Sincere thanks and our highest recommendation, Tom & Sarah Follette Cary, NC"

"Gilberto’s company painted the entire interior of my house, including kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities. They retiled my walk-in shower and garden tub surround, installed new granite countertops in bathrooms, replaced lighting and mirrors baths. They also installed a tile backsplash in kitchen. Their work was high quality and the always left the job sue neat and clean. Workers showed up when they said they would and completed the job on time and within budget. I would highly recommend them!"

"Tile Concepts did a superb job!!! The quality of their work is excellent. Not only did they do the original installation tile work for us but they came back and resealed the grout for us. The quality of the work looked beautiful when it was done. We compliments all the time."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Replacing tile flooring can take a few days for a pro, but larger rooms will need more time. It takes eight to 12 hours for a tiling pro to remove old grout and tiles across 100 square feet. Then, it will take about four hours to prep the subfloor for tiles and another eight to 10 hours for a pro to install new tiles. Your tiling project may take up to a week, depending on the size of the room.

If the hearth ends against a wall, you can use a tile cutter as you normally would. However, if the edge of your hearth ends with no surface pressing against it,you may want to look into rounded tiles. These give a smooth edge to your hearth and make sure cut edges aren’t visible. You can also see if the tile you have has pieces that have been glazed or rounded on one edge. You’d then cut the tile and place it normally, with the cut edge facing inward.

Glass tiles are among the most difficult to install. This is because their transparency makes the adhesive visible, and any imperfections on the opposite side are also likely to be visible. Glass tiles also must be handled carefully during installation, as they are prone to scratching. For these reasons, glass tiles often require professional installation to get the most out of their beauty and unique look.

The cost depends on the type of natural stone. High-end stones can cost as much as porcelain, but it depends on the specific material. For example, the cost of flagstone pavers is typically $2 to $6 per square foot, which is much more budget-friendly than porcelain. Outdoor slate tile can cost as much as $35 per square foot, which is about the same as porcelain.

Tiles last for around 100 years or more. Tiles on backsplashes can last even longer since they’re less likely to crack under foot traffic or from accidental drops, but even tile in high-traffic flooring can last a century or more with proper installation and upkeep. Porcelain tiles are denser and stronger than standard ceramic tiles, so they’ll last longer, often pushing past the 100-year mark.
