"I was incredibly pleased with all aspects of the work done by Kreiser electric. Chris Kreiser gave me options at several price points, but also made a recommendation to upgrade my electrical service in my beach house. His justification for the upgrade was sound, and the quote was reasonable. During the work, several issues arose as my house is quite "rustic", built before many electrical code changes. We also experienced scheduling challenges with the local power company. Through it all, Chris was calm and very communicative, and always had a fallback option that would make sure power would be restored as soon as possible. Overall I could not be more pleased by the work done by Kreiser Electric. Chris Kreiser clearly cares about the customer."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

While the rating will tell you how many watts the refrigerator needs at the peak of its cycle, it requires additional wattage to start. At the bare minimum, you’ll need a 1,500-watt generator to get the fridge up and running after a blackout. A 2,000-watt generator should be sufficient for most home refrigerators.

A home that is 2,500 square feet will likely need a 20kW to 25kW generator. Consult your local generator installer to confirm the generator size needed to power your home before purchasing a new one. Be sure to consider how much power your necessary devices need to run.

Yes, in some locations, it is required by the National Electric Code (NEC) to have a transfer switch installed for electrical emergencies. In addition to following electrical code, generator transfer switches ensure your home is fully protected during a power outage. By switching the power from the main breaker to the generator breaker, you can seamlessly operate your HVAC, lights, appliances, devices, and more during an emergency.

Costs range from $500 to $2,500, depending on generator type and installation complexity.

The amount of time a standby generator can run continuously is around 3,000 hours on average. However, standby generators can generally run indefinitely as long as they have a continuous fuel supply. Generators hooked up to a home’s natural gas supply are the best option for extended usage, as these won’t rely on a finite fuel supply based on how much you have in storage. Generators running on liquid propane or diesel won’t last as long, as these require fuel storage and regular refueling to stay running.
