"Very well-they were quick & for most part were able to do the majority of the work from the outside. They arrived very early & spent all day (ended roughly around 4?-didn't check the time) *there were close to 30 windows, one specialty window that a 2 man team installed. They asked that we move everything away from the windows to avoid any damages. Advised us to avoid putting items back for at least 24 hours to allow the seals to set properly. They arrived before I was fully awake-they want to get it done in 1 day! Would advise that you set your alarm early!"

"Came to provide estimate to repair what appeared to be broken window. After looking at it, advised only needed to scrape off some old tinting film. Didn't want to charge us, but we did pay him something for his time and help. Honest and professional. Plan to use again for other window items."

"When they were done, I noticed a spot on a skylight that they had missed. Even though they had put their equipment away already, they immediately corrected the situation. Windows looked great!"

"G I Kleaning Services did an excellent job deep cleaning the entire house prior to move-in. They cleaned everything --blinds, windows, carpets, cabinets, drawers, floors, showers, tubs, to a sparkling new condition. They even cleaned behind all the appliances. They did a great job for a great price as well. They worked with my schedule and were very punctual. Absolutely would recommend!!"

"I reported a window sealant problem beneath several windows, and my concern that I also may have a house foundation issue. I was given an inspection appointment. Daniel Messer conducted a thorough inspection, inside and outside, and determined that our foundation is solid, but we have a water leakage problem. This is causing rain water to enter beneath our windows, resulting in a significant window trim gap and separation from the window. Daniel was very polite and helpful, advising that we most likely need a carpenter specialist to alleviate our problem. My wife and I really appreciate his honest evaluation."

Windows questions, answered by experts

Impact windows are a type of window made with impact-resistant glass, designed specifically for hurricanes. The glass, treated with ethylene-vinyl, can withstand winds up to 200 mph, as well as flying debris. Brands sometimes test their impact windows with large missile impact tests.

Impact windows may be required in some places. For instance, the Florida Building Code requires homes to have impact-resistant windows if they live within a mile of the coast where wind speeds can reach 110 mph or more.

Glass block windows are energy-efficient because they are much thicker than traditional glass panes, making them better insulators. They are sealed airtight, which prevents drafts and stops warm or cool air from escaping, helping to save money on heating and cooling bills. Unlike traditional windows that can be opened and closed, sealed glass block windows eliminate the potential for air leaks. For proven efficiency, look for options that are Energy Star rated. The cost for energy-efficient glass block windows is typically around $400 per window, which may be higher than standard windows.

Whether or not it's worth it to install double-hung windows depends on several key factors. First, double-hung windows cost more than single-hung windows, so if you’re looking to lower costs, you might find it more worthwhile to choose single-hung windows. If you want the lowest maintenance requirements, though, double-hung windows are easier to clean.

Double-hung windows also offer better ventilation, making them a good option for bathrooms and kitchens. Single-hung windows have better energy efficiency than double-hung windows because they have only one moving part.

Awning windows can have screens, but it depends on your manufacturer. If your awning window does have a screen, it will be on the interior side so it doesn’t get in the way when you crank the window open. Having the screen on the inner part of the window also makes it easier to clean from inside your home.

Windows can crack for various reasons. Common causes include aging glass, physical impact, and temperature stress. A less common reason is pressure changes, which are far less predictable. Pressure changes often happen because of poor window placement.
