"An OUTSTANDING plumber responded to our home to give me an estimate on replacing our pressure regulator. He wasted no time and crawled under our home to check the situation. He came back out, explained that our pressure regulator desperately needed replacing. It was very old, and I was aware it needed to be replaced but I didn't think I could afford it. Terry figured the estimate, showed me & patiently explained the situation. He went back to his truck to give me privacy while I determined how to pay for the work. I had a means to pay, so I went & told Terry it was go. He went back & got the supplies he needed & began the job. The only thing I know was that he had the work done in record time. He showed me the old regulator and some pipe that he'd removed & suggested to me to get a small Guage like the one he uses to check the water pressure. He told me where he bought it and & before he left he showed me how to use it. I was truly blessed to have TERRY CORSON come to help me today"

"Dustin from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing was professional and trustworthy. We ended up paying LESS than he quoted us to replace an outdoor faucet, because the pipe was in better shape than he first thought. And he was at our house in less than 24 hours after I called for an appointment. I'll definitely call Benjamin Franklin Plumbing again."

"Richard arrived on time, fully prepared to undertake the periodic servicing of our tankless water heater. He explained everything he was going to do and why it was necessary. He also explained the necessity of checking all drains, toilets, and plumbing fixtures throughout the house. When he was finished, I felt confident that our entire plumbing system had been examined -- for the first time in 20 years! He is a licensed plumber, which not all "plumbers" in North Carolina are."

"We had our bathroom modification completed by Palmetto Bath and Home. We went from a tub to a custom 32x72 inch shower and while still waiting for the sliding glass shower door to arrive and be installed by the glass company used for our project we couldn’t be happier with the outcome thus far. Mason Chapman of Palmetto arrived at our home on the time scheduled for us to describe what we were looking for and to prepare a design and a fair and affordable estimate for the job. After evaluating other contractors, we accepted Mason’s design and quote. The crews used by Palmetto for the job were also on time each and every day of the demolition and install. Dane Easton was the primary subcontractor used by Palmetto Bath for our shower install and he was exceptional! Dane proved a hard-working and dedicated craftsman, a man of integrity and an outstanding human being who was meticulous and took pride in his work while taking the time and effort to explain each and every step."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

Start by inspecting visible pipes for signs of corrosion, moisture, or discoloration, which can indicate a leak. You should also listen for sounds like hissing or dripping, which may point you toward a leak. Moisture meters and infrared cameras can also help you identify areas of increased moisture around your home, which can also signify a leak.

Yes, a skilled plumber can thaw frozen pipes, and it is recommended to hire a professional rather than attempting a DIY fix. A plumber will typically start by investigating your plumbing to locate the frozen areas. They then use professional equipment, such as a heat gun, to safely thaw the affected pipes. If a pipe has already burst or developed leaks, the plumber can make the necessary repairs. For homes with frequently frozen pipes, a plumber can also suggest preventative measures like improving pipe insulation or rerouting lines away from areas prone to freezing.

Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.

The most likely reason is rust. You can try using lubricant to loosen the metal components, but you’ll most likely need to call in a plumber to professionally sand down the rust without damaging the rest of your bathtub. If the rust is extensive, it might be a sign that you need to replace the plumbing.

Any drain in your house requires a water trap to prevent sewer gases from entering the home. Dishwashers don’t have an internal water trap, so they must use an external P trap. The most convenient P trap for the dishwasher is already in the plumbing under your sink.
