"I can't say enough good about these guys! This is the second kitchen they have remodeled for me and the transformation is amazing. Carlos and Patrick are extremely professional - always doing the job right and making sure every detail is perfect..... and, they are just NICE, too! I have no hesitation recommending their work. In 3 days, they had refaced the existing cabinets, added new boxes to extend original cabinets to the ceiling, reconfigured two 4-drawer cabinets to 3-drawer and tore out a small closet-type pantry and added a two huge pantry cabinets, one of which accommodated my new trash compactor. The new soft-close doors and drawers are beautiful and certainly make my kitchen sparkle! See for yourself with the Before, During & After shots.... and the 2 best installers ever!"

Small jobs welcome

"Rex and his crew ordered custom doors for our custom-built cabinet boxes. They did a great job with the finish. Turnaround time was long, but we got through it. We would  recommend for cabinet doors and painting."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Yes, 12-inch shelves are often considered the standard closet shelf depth for storing folded clothing, shoes, and small containers. However, if you plan to store bulky items such as blankets, baskets, or cleaning supplies, you may want to go deeper. For specialized layouts, an adjustable system can give you more flexibility.

You can budget a little less money for how to build a closet with wire shelves than with wood shelves. Some people don’t like the aesthetics that wire shelves provide, though, meaning they’ll gladly spend a little more to add wood shelves to the build. If you decide to buy pre-made wire shelves instead of building custom-sized wood shelves, you’ll be restricted in the closet shelving dimensions you can use.

The vertical space between closet shelves depends on what you're storing. For clothing like shirts and sweaters, 10 to 12 inches is enough. Towels and linens need 12 to 15 inches, while tall storage bins may require 18 inches or more. Overcrowding your shelves can reduce accessibility and increase clutter, so be sure to leave breathing room for your items.

Fortunately, there are no hard and fast rules or regulations regarding the height of closet shelving. However, the typical height for a single closet shelf with a hanging bar is 70 inches from the floor. For a double-hanging system, use 84 to 85 inches from the floor for the top one and 42 inches for the lower.

There are certainly luxury upgrades you can make but you can seriously improve the look and functionality of a closet without spending much money. Color matching will make the closet seem bigger so any shelves painted the same as the wall is a good tip. While pre-made closet organizers may seem expensive they offer an aesthetic look that's hard to achieve with DIY methods. Lastly, removing clutter and unworn items will help the closet seem bigger and cleaner.
