They gutted the bathrooms down to the studs, reconfigured the layout and rebuilt them back in a timely matter. John and Bree did all the work themselves. Demo, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting and tile work all done by just the two of them. It was amazing to watch them work. The speed, quality and detail of their work was superb. They were great at keeping us up to date on the progress of the jobs. They also kept the power and water disruptions down to a minimum, always giving us plenty of notice when they were going to shut them off. They took time to answer all our questions. "John Squires is very responsive, professional, and courteous. During the week between Christmas and New Years, we needed a new contractor ASAP for a house we were about to close on and we did not hold out much hope for finding someone on short notice during the holidays. John called us back shortly after we left him a message and agreed to meet with us the next day at the property. The next day, John spent a lot of time with us going through the entire house, pointing out issues that were previously not brought to our attention. He also offered creative ideas for making the space work with careful consideration to our budget. Further, being two women, we are wary of every new male contractor as we have experienced numerous contractors and handymen to be condescending and patronizing (lots of "darlin'" and "honey" and an inability to realize that we know what we are talking about and are not inexperienced or naive about home restoration). John was the opposite, deliberating with him on the house was like talking with a close male friend that respected you and saw you as an equal. We even felt comfortable enough to share with him that we appreciated and noted his approach and manner. As mentioned before, John was very thorough in his assessment of the house and pointed out issues that others had missed. For instance, he pointed out a panel of asbestos in the second story that the person we had paid to assess the house for asbestos had missed. He also pointed out how the foundation had been compromised in a few places in the crawlspace where the current owners had begun digging out the space to convert it into a basement. Ultimately, we pulled out of the contract on the house, so we have not yet been able to work with John on construction. However, John's assessment and insights into the house partly informed our decision to back out of the deal and in hindsight know it was the right thing to do. Without John's perspective, we may have moved forward with the purchase and regretted it later. We are now looking for a different property in Asheville and will absolutely be working with John in the future."

"This father-and-son team is awesome. They were timely, communicative, and very fair. They started when they said they would, got the job done efficiently, and kept in touch with us about changes and innovations as the project went along. They were also totally honest with us about renovation ideas we had that would not have worked due to the condition and logistics of our home, which is 60 years old and sits on a steep hill. "They did a good job on sealing up the basement. The french drain was a bit of a challenge. My car port was still flooding after a good steady rain. When they came back to fix, they removed some nice gravel that they installed originally and dug a little deeper and put in some stuff that was butt ugly. I didn't make a big deal of it because ultimately what I wanted was the flooding fixed. Getting them back to fix the problem took weeks. They often didn't return phone calls. The main guy said he had come out to look, but he didn't bother to tell me. The second time didn't fix it either. They finally came out a third time to work on the french drain after many phone calls and most of them not returned. I was told their answering service wasn't working a few times. Internet problems or something. But that went on for weeks. They finally sent someone out and they brought the drain further out from the edge of the car port. (The original problem they said was they couldn't dig any deeper because the edge of the carport had cement that was beyond the edge. My thought, they should have moved it back the first time when they realized this. The description of the ditch on estimate was it would be 12 to 18 inches deep. It was nothing close to this. I tried to point this out, they sort of ignored me. This whole miscalculation really wasn't my problem.)  They pulled ditch out on the other side of flower bed and made deeper, they put the crappy looking rock back and told me if it didn't work this time they couldn't do anything else. They pointed out how the hill on the side, (They put the drain in the front.) was so sloped that rain water was likely coming from there. Luckily this drain mostly fixed the problem. I felt they completely misjudged the drain situation. They bid low and that was tied up with some other work. So I can understand how their profit was trickling away. However; the way they handled the whole thing was unprofessional and careless. Due to this I decided I would probably not use them again. If you hire them to do their specialty, crawl space sealing, treatment and remedy, you may be happy with them. Just know you may have to deal with some issues around getting them to call back, etc.
