"I was a Home Depot buying new exterior doors when we realized a trim carpenter was needed. I looked on Home Advisor and found Conner Carpentry and asked for a quote. He called me 10 mins later. He also picked up my doors and had them installed the next day. Great results and a really nice person to work with."

"Joe and his crew are prompt, efficient and do excellent work. We first had them build steps from our screened room to ground level so that we could then better visualize the deck portion of the overall project. The work on the steps was perfect and so we then had Joe come back to help us with the size, rails, and placement of steps to access the yard. Joe has experience that comes through when he is helping with visualizing the end product. We rate Joe and his crew with Deck Doctors with the highest rating."

"The guys at SeeLevel did a great job with our interior trim projects. They provided a room by room estimate which I had requested. They showed up on time and were attentive to my wife's visions of what she wanted done. They completed all the projects which included multiple rooms of shiplap and multiple rooms of board and batten in 2 days. We are very pleased with the results and will definitely use them again."

Got in and knocked the job out in a very short amount of time. We will definitely utilize their services for future projects. Thanks again Joseph."

"We hired Pinnacle Construction for a complete bathroom remodel and are exceedingly pleased with the result. Jason was our construction foreman and was outstanding. All of the subcontractors along with Jason were polite, professional, efficient, and highly skilled. To all Northern transplantsâ finding it frustrating to deal with contractors who show up when they get around to it, seemingly oblivious to timelines and communication, and lack a sense of pride in workmanship; Pinnacle Construction and owner Bobby Hounsell offer all that is exceptional in home construction. They are clearly committed to meeting the needs and aspirations of their customers."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, professional installations include reinforced corner posts to ensure durability.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

Installing a tongue-and-groove wall requires similar techniques to those associated with installing shiplap. However, because of the precision necessary to make each board fit perfectly and the increased material prices, the cost is higher than that of shiplap installations. Expect to spend between $2 and $6 more per square foot for tongue-and-groove walls versus shiplap ones.
