"I did a lot of research on Angie's List before selecting 3 roofers to come out and give us a quote.
Not only was CSR one of the highest rated, but they ended up giving us a VERY competitive quote... even beating out one other company that was going to charge a little more but only provide us with 25 year shingles.  For less, we got a great 50-year, architectural shingle roof.  It looks great.
Of course, the warranty is only as good as the company behind it.  If the company ceases to exist, then so does the warranty.  CSR has been around for 30 years.  The owner, Van Sterling, came out to present his proposal after his son had come out to do measurements, etc.  So... looks like his son will take over the company and it should be around for quite a while.  The shingles are by GAF, around forever and likely to remain so.
Van explained to us that the ridge vents we had were working in opposition to the roof fan.  So, we took the roof fan out.  Saving on electricity, the hum of the fan, and resulting in a cooler attic too.
CSR does not use subcontractors.  The crew of 7 who were here all work for them.  Some for more than 10 years.  Stephen, the project manager, was here throughout the day making sure all got done to their standards.  They even pack a microwave with the crew so everyone hangs around here for lunch rather than taking off for fast food somewhere and potentially being delayed on the return.
All of them were very professional.  They tarped everything and didn't damage any of the plantings/shrubbery/etc. around the house.  At the end of the day, they cleaned up so well the only thing that showed they were here was the beautiful new roof.
Would definitely hire again... in another 50 years when we need a new roof :-)

"Once again Bachert Builds came through for us in a big way. We couldn't?t be happier with their work on our kitchen remodel.  As was the case with the other jobs they have done for us in our home, Chester and his crew were personable, pleasant, and
wrapped up each day with a thorough cleaning of their workspace and surrounding areas. I can?t say how important it is to find someone who you can not only trust to do the work correctly, but who also takes exceptional pride and care
in that work. Chester and his crew often went above and beyond to make us happy, and it was a relief to know that we could entrust our home with all of them. Over an 8 week* remodel it?s impossible to be present every moment, but we never doubted their care for our home and belongings for a second when we were away. All of Bachert Builds? subcontractors treated us, and our home, with
great respect. Chester?s attention to detail and his understanding of OUR attention to detail helped make this remodel a great success. He was easy to get a hold of and always available to solve problems as they arose, he was also able to help with the issues that came up with the other company we were working with.  We?ll be forever grateful for the love he put into our kitchen, it is the new center of our home and we can?t wait to start the next home project on our list for him.
*the original timeline was more like 5-6 weeks, the change to 8 weeks was outside their control."

"After the repair was done I noticed a leak in my bathroom ceiling where one of the roof vents were replaced. I called the Subcontractor Brian on a Saturday morning. The weather was cold and raining. He was at my house within the hour up on the roof and fixed the leak. I havent had any leaks since. I would hire Brain the Subcontractor again."

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Hiring a contractor with knowledge about historic renovations and reviewing their previous work is important. You can find a historic home renovation contractor by calling your local historic preservation office, historical society, or any local historic museums nearby. The staff may have suggestions for specialized contractors who have worked for them. You can also ask them about historic home restorations that you have seen and liked in your area to get recommendations for pros.

Yes, new home construction will always require building permits, no matter where you live. In most cases, you’ll need a general construction permit, along with plumbing and electrical permits for the utility lines in your home. Depending on where you live, you’ll likely find that you also need permits for things like connection to a sewage system or installing exterior components, like decks, driveways, patios, and curb cutouts. Leave navigating the permits required for new home construction to a professional to ensure your home is built legally and safely.

The longest part of building a custom home is the design phase. It takes multiple professionals and a ton of work to bring your vision for your dream home to life while sticking to a homebuilding budget and also ensuring everything is built to code. Expect the design phase for a custom home build to take six months to a year.

You don’t have to commit to a complete home renovation to age in place comfortably—those can get pricey. Instead, focus on a few impactful changes. Consider adding a stair lift or installing ramps to eliminate barriers. Upgrading to non-slip flooring can prevent falls while adding brighter lighting can improve visibility throughout your home. These thoughtful updates can make your home much easier to navigate and enhance your comfort and safety without the stress and cost of a complete overhaul.

Buying a house is easier than building one from scratch. Buying an existing home is almost always faster, even if you need to make renovations once you move in. When you hire the right team to build a home, they will simplify the design and build phases so that there is little guesswork throughout the process, but building new construction will almost always take longer than buying an existing home.
