27 years of experience

ADVANCED CHIMNEY has been providing quality chimney cleaning, building and repairing since our founding in 1998. It is our mission to provide the best service and quality for our customers, at a price that is very competitive. We believe the best way to achieve this goal is to keep our business a small, family owned and operated business who blends our Christian beliefs with the more than 25 years combined experience into our work. The owner, Robert Schools, Master Sweep, has been in the chimney industry since 1993. Before pursuing chimneys, he worked the the Heating and Air Conditioning industry since 1988. Jesse, Robert’s son has been assisting him since 2005.

"I prefer to not leave negative reviews publicly and resolve it with the company directly. However, the owner was unable to conduct a professional, respectful level of customer service. We presented our concerns with pictures after the service was provided, to see if it was up to their company standards, because there was no improvement - everything was left filthy with no condition report. It was honestly appalling the way the owner refused to address the obvious issues at hand. We scheduled to have our fireplaces/chimneys serviced that was said to include a thorough inspection, detailed cleaning and condition report. When the workers showed up, they were in an unmarked raggedy old van reeking of marijuana, dressed like they were homeless, with nothing showing what company they represented. They did 4 fireplaces and 2 chimneys in less than 2 hours. The equipment they used was insufficient to do a thorough job and they ended up borrowing our tools to complete their work. I’m not sure why they didn’t at least have a flashlight and how the owner thinks a cell phone light “works just fine to the trained eye” when inspecting and cleaning a deep dark chimney… He went on and on and had an excuse for every legitimate problem, with no intent to resolve anything. He was perpetually harassing both my boyfriend and me for payment, while we were waiting for them to send a professional condition report and formal invoice. Yet he spent more time threatening us, trying to defend his reputation, than he did actually doing his job. It was very condescending, a huge waste of time and A LOT of money for nothing. We could’ve done a better job ourselves; our fireplaces still aren’t even suitable for use. Spend your money elsewhere or take the risk of a huge loss."

Chimney Repair questions, answered by experts

Regular cleaning, rust prevention treatments, and protective coatings extend lifespan and appearance.

Metal roofs don’t inherently leak more than shingles, and when properly installed, they can actually offer greater protection against leaks. However, poor installation, improperly sealed fasteners, or thermal expansion issues can lead to leaks over time, so professional installation and regular maintenance are crucial.

In many areas, chimney repair companies need to be licensed, but it depends on your state and local municipality. You can check with your local building department to see if companies need licenses, and then you can use Angi’s license lookup tool to confirm that the company you’re considering holds the proper license. It’s a good idea to confirm that the professional is fully insured, and you can ask about certification from organizations like the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA). These certifications aren’t mandatory, but they help ensure a professional repair.

When choosing a metal roof, consider not only the area of the roof but also the thickness of the panel, known as the gauge. Common roofing gauge sizes for metal roofs are 24-gauge and 26-gauge. The smaller the gauge size, the thicker the roof. Usually, a thicker gauge is ideal if your house is in an area that sees a lot of rain, snow, or hail, as it will be less likely to dent.

A metal roof will last for an average of around 50 years—usually between 40 and 75 years—which is about double the lifespan of an asphalt roof—between 15 and 30 years or 25 years on average. Installing a metal roof is usually more expensive than an asphalt roof, with an average cost of $11,400 compared to the $9,200 for an asphalt roof. However, given that a metal roof costs about 20% more and lasts twice as long, it’s typically well worth the investment and should save you money in the long run.
