"MDS Handiworks and Home Services exceeded my expectations. Nate was punctual, pleasant, patient, open to questions, and was extremely efficient. He installed three floating bathroom shelves and explained everything clearly. They look fantastic! He also hung a large privacy shade on our open, outdoor south-facing patio. His quality workmanship, clear communication, and reasonable pricing all added up to a very positive experience. We will definitely hire him again for future projects. We highly recommend this professional!"

"This is our third major experience with Charles Wyles and his son, Joel. My wife and I cannot praise them too highly. We have had problems with follow through using local contractors in this rural part of Montana. Charles and Joel always showed up on time and ready to work hard and finish the job on time. They are highly skilled at every aspect of remodeling. We gave them a major challenge in nearly rebuilding and, certainly, saving a 75 year-old log cabin. They did everything from rebuilding the damaged central beam that was holding the roof up to re-roofing most of the cabin. We were so pleased with the quality of their work that we asked them to return to finish the foundation after the prior contractor abandoned us for more lucrative projects. The third project was the largest and most challenging. They built us custom kitchen cabinets exactly as my wife designed them with additional improvements they suggested. They finished the kitchen by tiling the countertops and backsplashes and installing a new sink. All of The work was absolutely top notch with excellent communication along the way. The project also included installing new floors in four rooms and setting a new toilet. No subcontractors involved because these two gentlemen can do it all. All of our project came in on budget with the estimates we initially agreed upon. I wish I could submit before and after photos. Speaking of gentlemen- Charles and Joel are originally from Arkansas. They are true southern gentlemen- polite, respectful and conscientious. On two of the projects, they stayed in the cabin because their home in Stevensville, Montana is an hour and a half away from our home. They had dinner with us each night and we eventually had most of their large family come up to visit. They almost feel like family now. By the way, they left the cabin immaculate and even picked up debris from the former foundation contractor. In addition to this, they are licensed, insured and bonded. You don’t always find this in rural Montana. It adds extra peace of mind."

I graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree with a math minor in 2015 but enjoy working construction. I like to help people and enjoy the work that I do. I have been in the construction industry since 2008 and have had the opportunities to perform many different aspects of construction ranging from custom home builds, foundation repairs, complete remodels and a variety of smaller outdoor projects such as porches and patios. If I don't have an answer I do not hesitate to ask and find out the solution. My goal has always been to provide my costumers with the best service possible. If you are not happy, I aim to do whatever I can to make sure you are happy when the job is complete.

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

There are several maintenance tips you should take to ensure your pellet stove's safety and proper maintenance. You should vacuum the ash pan every week to prevent overflowing and clean the stove and surrounding vents every three to four months. It’s also important to get a professional inspection every year and install a carbon monoxide detector close to your stove. Be sure to dispose of hot ashes in a closed metal container; store it outside, away from the house. Only use the pellets recommended by your stove's manufacturer, and follow any cleaning and maintenance instructions.

Yes, it is possible. An electrical fire can break out if the compressor has inadequate ventilation. When it overheats but doesn't have a proper thermal cutout, this can cause the motor to short-circuit and catch fire. This risk is exacerbated if flammable materials, like dust and fallen leaves, are clogging the unit. The compressor overheating won't start a fire by itself, but poor maintenance and installation can increase the risk once it hits its breaking point and short-circuits.

Once your ashes have fully cooled, you can place them in a heavy-duty trash bag and put them into the bin with your normal trash. If you have wood ash, you can add the ash to your composting pile or sprinkle it over your grass or plants directly for added nutrients.

Yes, a chimney damper is necessary. It controls airflow in and out of your fireplace, helping to retain heat when closed and allowing smoke to escape when open. Without a damper, your home could lose warmth during cold months, leading to higher energy bills. It also helps prevent downdrafts and keeps animals or debris from entering the chimney. In short, it’s essential for efficiency and safety.

While your municipality may have its own regulations requiring pergolas or other structures to be a certain height above a fire pit, the standard recommendation is that the pergola should be at least 10 feet above the fire pit. A taller pergola allows the heat from the flames to dissipate before reaching the structure.
