"Had several plumbing problems that Carlson Plumbing took care of. Showed up at the time they said they would and explained everything that would need to be done. Rates were very reasonable and I was very pleased with the work."

"cooper was our installer. He was veryprofessional and did excellent work. The job he did looks great. What a great employe he is for bath fitter. Better than five star. The only problem I have is I ended up with a shower without a corner shelf or soap dish. This is the first shower I have seen with out these. Gary White"

"My certified inspector MatthewCote out of the Belgrade, MT office found i have a natural spring comming up in my crawlspace. I knew I had water streaming all over crawlspace and my husband believed it was due to watering lawn of the hill our house sits on. Matt was great to work with, he was totally professional. He explained my situation and showed me in photos and map of my basement what this ssprincause, how it had eroded and damage caused. It has been going on for quite a few years, of which I noticed escalation of water even though I decreased watering on above lawn. I wish I had researched this sooner. But MATT assured me it's not too late. He was clear and concise as to what I needed done to resolve and eliminate further damage by installing 2 sump pumps, installing trenches & piping to drain all areas of water, draining ouside of house past septic and leach field, add a humidifier and encapsulation of crawlspace. I highly recommend Groundworks and Matt to anyone."

"His price for the Job seemed very good, but more money was added from the original estimate, making the total cost not quite as good. Still his cost may be slightly less than other plumber are asking. I rehired him for a second small job, which he was 45 minutes late for, and again the price increased from the original estimate. The Job took ten Minute. it was a plumbing re-route. He has trouble with his computer invoices, so watch that carefully. Make sure your original agreement, from the estimate is firm!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

When starting plumbing projects in Columbus, contractors uncover pre-existing freeze damage inside walls or crawl spaces. You should also anticipate travel charges if professionals commute from Billings or Red Lodge. For rural properties, unexpected expenses arise when projects require separate well or septic specialists. Additionally, older homes require extensive repiping or updated water heater venting to meet current MT codes, and high water tables near the Yellowstone River complicate exterior trenching.

Helpful?

Routine plumbing maintenance in Columbus demands strict annual winterization, including draining outdoor hose bibs and inspecting heat tape before October freezes. Because local groundwater contains heavy minerals, you must flush your water heater regularly and service your water softener to prevent scale buildup. Rural MT homeowners also require septic tank pumping every three to five years and annual inspections of their well pumps and pressure tanks to maintain safe, reliable water flow.

Helpful?

Prioritize a comprehensive freeze protection audit for your plumbing in crawl spaces and exterior walls. Given the extreme Columbus winters, locating and testing your main shutoff valve is a critical safety step. For rural MT properties, test your well water for bacteria and arsenic, and schedule a full septic system inspection. Finally, assess your aging water heater to ensure it meets current venting standards before winter increases your hot water demand.

Helpful?

Plan your plumbing projects well in advance due to limited local contractor availability and long scheduling lead times. Exterior water lines must sit below the deep MT frost line of 36 to 48 inches to prevent freezing. Additionally, properties near the Yellowstone River face strict floodplain regulations regarding excavation and septic placement. Always verify whether your home falls under Columbus town limits or county jurisdiction to ensure proper permitting and compliance.

Helpful?

A major red flag is any quote missing a state-issued license number. Legitimate professionals working on plumbing in Columbus always include necessary permits and required inspections. Watch out for contractors who pressure you to skip these steps or ignore local hard water conditions when quoting fixture installations. Finally, avoid out-of-area bids that omit travel fees or fail to account for MT climate challenges like deep frost lines and severe winter conditions.
