They first told us that this was not part of the agreement. After hours of debate with the home office - and reminders of previous emails specifically discussing the drainage - they went back to add the drainage. At no time did they actually admit their mistake - just conceded to a "design change." It was not a change - they failed to include it in the original paper work. After another day of work, they disappeared for several days, stating they had other jobs - but would return. On the the final day, the small crew spent more time sitting than working and proceeded to throw cross ties on the structure in a haphazard way with no attention to form. Small pieces were thrown in at arbitrary places, the main posts were not even touching the wall with large gaps, they threw dirt in places to cover the lack of gravel for drainage, and cut one support post so low - there would be nothing there to support the finishing levels. They then left for the day on a Friday at 3:00 pm. My husband made phone calls and sent several emails letting them know of the errors they had made. they sent us back a email stating that we had 2 choices. We could allow them to finish the wall - as is - or we could pay them 70% of the final cost and they would take all equipment and leave the project. That Sunday night - there was a torrential down pour- flooding the driveway with mud as a result of the unfinished job. (We had just had a solid week of sun.) On Monday, a member of the company came by to see what we had decided - and when he saw what a horrible job the crew had done, he told us there was no way they would correct this, but in light of how poorly the work was, we would not receive a bill. We were left with the mess. Now we have a driveway with a mountain of mud that spreads out everywhere every time it rains and probably wont be able to get another company out here for months. We have no use of our driveway or garage. Our drains are already clogged with mud. Several contractors have come out to survey the job and provide an estimate. In all three cases - they could not believe how incompetent the crew was - how poorly the wall had been constructed and the obvious steps that had been eliminated. The company will undoubtedly respond to this review (as they did another reviewer with the same problem) They will tell you that we changed the design after the project began. We did not - it was a necessary part that was communicated from the beginning with email communication to document negotiations. They will tell you that the structure they were building was sufficient and would stand over the coming years. After the first rain - it was already failing and I wish I could post pictures to show what mess it was. Bottom line - this is the second review being provided with the exact same complaint. Poor work, no responsibility for their mistakes and ultimately being left with a mess for us or another contractor to fix. I cant explain the other good reviews. Perhaps they have more than one crew - but it you get stuck with the B crew as we did, as well as the other reviewer, the money, time and absolute frustration will go on for months. Save yourself.
We entered into a fixed price contract for this builder to build our home. He claimed at the end of the project to need an additional 60K to finish the home. He did this a week after we had our second child and the home was to be complete within a few weeks. We also found out at this time he had not paid over $60k to suppliers and subs dating all the way back to the concrete used for our foundation. He never finished the home and placed a lien on it claiming we owed him almost $80k to cover claimed "overages" and seeking payment for things he never started, or completed. or things he never owned like our lot. He also did all plumbing except for the plumbing in the slab himself and is not a licensed plumber. The home just sat incomplete for months. The company filed for bankruptcy days before we had a court date to try to get what we believe to have been a false lien removed. The owners of this company Matthew and Ken Avery were/are involved in so many lawsuits personally and professionally. We found out after the fact we were at least the third family for the Avery's to build a home for and then file a lien on the homes they are remodeling/building claiming the homeowners have caused so many "overages" meanwhile taking your loan money and not paying subs and/or suppliers. The home also had numerous stop payments in place as the builder did not pay suppliers and subs as stated previously. He took drafts from our loan to pay for these items, but did not ever pay for numerous items in our home like HVAC, windows, doors, concrete, etc...His claims of overages are on things we never asked for or were never told were over budget items. In our case he took all but 6k of our loan money and left the home incomplete and needing an additional 60k to finish. So far the Avery's have been able to bankrupt this company and move on with business as usual with another LLC they have. In the construction industry alone they have had at least 3 different names. I would never recommend anyone to do business with these men. It is disgraceful, in my opinion, how many families have been hurt by them. The company was ordered to never renew their license (the license had already expired at the time of the hearing with the Board of Contractors) and Matthew Avery lost his personal residential builders license due to the gross negligence and/or misconduct in the building process of our home. We also hope one day the company, or the individuals behind it, face criminal charges.

Not much to to tell, they created an under ground barrier around the house and the storage building. Seemed to do a good job, they were punctual and answered all my questions.

You’re also paying for all new appliances, finishes, permits, inspections, and connections for water, gas, and electricity.
Knowing if you need an architect for your project can be tricky, especially if you've never worked with one before. In general, small remodeling projects like replacing fixtures typically don't require the expertise of an architect. However, larger projects, like moving walls or adding an addition to your home, should include an architect to ensure the project is structurally sound.
