""Harry" from Reed's plumbing, responded quickly, assed the situation, replaced the toilet mechanism and re-plumbed the water feed, He worked quickly and efficiently, was pleasant and extremely helpful. The work was done very well and a a very reasonable cost, especially in spite of the fact that it was after normal working hours.

"We had a good experience w/ ATS. We were in a bit of a pinch as our furnace was not running well at all and we discovered we had a cracked heat exchanger right before a cold snap so time wasn't really on our side. We obtained 3 bids and ATS was competitive w/ one of the others but was able to deliver and install sooner so after some discussion (and negotiation) we went w/ ATS. One thing that we appreciated was the level of professionalism and genuineness that the guys demonstrated. I think this was a win/win and we were happy w/ the service and price. We would definitely hire/recommend this company to others. Based on our experience they don't play games to try and take you to the cleaners."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can convert a gas water heater to an electric one, but it is a complex process. You will need to ensure there is adequate power for the new electric unit, as they require more power than gas models. The project also involves safely closing off the gas lines and ventilation, and some cities may require a permit for the conversion. The cost can range from $1,500 to $4,100, depending on the installation scope, plumbing and electrical work, and the water heater model. For an accurate quote, it's best to contact a local professional. Also, be aware that your monthly utility bills may increase after the conversion, as natural gas is typically cheaper than electricity.

Newer models are packed with newer technologies that decrease energy consumption and increase output, giving you more bang for your buck in more bills than one.

If you’re trying to decide whether you want to repair or replace your new heater, consider factors like your utility bills, repair costs, and even your carbon footprint to help you decide whether it makes sense to buy a new one instead.

A thermocouple is a pretty simple device. It simply tells the control valve if heat is present. Most water heaters can use a universal thermocouple, provided it's the correct length. Getting one that's long enough for your appliance is crucial for success. However, some water heater models require model-specific thermocouples, which is why it's essential to take your existing one to the store to find the right match.

Yes, a heat pump water heater can work in colder climates but it’s much more effective where it’s warm. The reason is that the heat pump needs ambient warmth in the air to compress. The less warmth, the more compression required, thus using more electricity and offsetting the energy-efficient benefits.

Electric water heaters do not need an attached vent, but the location of the water heater should allow for roughly 12 inches of clearance around it. This allows cool air to flow around the appliance and allows repair technicians to work on its components safely. The exact amount of clearance space required depends on your local building codes.
