Dear Home Advisor, I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the service I received from J & L Construction and Excavation, a service provider listed on Home Advisorâ s Website. I recommend that homeowners seeking to hire a company to re-build and re-stain their decks look for another contractor with better business practices than J& L Construction and Excavation. Next, I will outline my yearlong negative experience with this Company. Details of my experience: (1) Service Request details: (2) I hired J & L in October 2022 for approximately $7,600 to repair and stain our damaged deck, and they completed the work the first week in November 2022. On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, CEO LaCoe gave us a One-year warranty for all labor and five years on lumber for the deck. (3) In mid-March 2023, I texted Joshua LaCoe (CEO)to express our displeasure with his Companyâ s artistry. Specifically, the deck hinges were made of substandard material, loose deck floors and stair hinges, the floor had split, and the deck lost its color, which we captured in numerous photos we sent him. Following several phone calls and texts, CEO LaCoe finally committed to visiting our home to view our concerns on Thursday, April 13. He acknowledged that his Companyâ s work was inadequate, as the pictures and his visit verified. I requested that he make good on his repairs in the next couple of weeks; however, the CEO would not commit to making an appointment for his Company to live up to their warranty. (4) Unprofessional Behavior: a. I sought to amicably resolve our issues with CEO Joshua LaCoe by seeking the assistance of the Better Business Bureau of Arkansas and Missouri. We could not gain the aid of the Missouri Branch since, apparently, J & L is not a member; however, I contacted the Arkansas Branch, and they informed me that they were unsuccessful in locating Joshua LA Coe. b. In September 2023, I submitted a $5,000 Small Claim Petition against CEO Joshua LaCoe, and the Greene County Court system has sought to serve him a summons to appear. Yet, their efforts have been unsuccessful since the CEO has moved around several times between Arkansas and Missouri and has not received his certified letters from the Court. (5) I have incurred over $200.00 in additional expenses to share the Courtâ s Summons to the CEO through the County. (6) Desired Resolution I seek to recover 5,000 dollars from CEO LaCoe, which is approximately $2,500 less than our original payment of $7600. Sincerely, Gilbert Brown
