"Time will tell but seemed knowledgeable, they were very informative for us during the inspection and before and their report is well laid out with all that they reviewed including relevant pictures (with arrows, circles on important parts)."

"Great company to hire if you want a home inspection. Scott did a great job. Was also able to look at the roof of the 2.5 story house, using a drone, when other companies were unable to do this. Would hire again, would highly recommend!"

"Kurt and Lesa are both wonderful and so helpful. Kurt showed up early and was very thorough and helpful. Less promptly sent the report and invoice and even helped me sort out a few things for a short term rental permit. I highly recommend them! They're wonderful."

Customers say: True professional

"The team was professional, very knowledgeable, efficient, and well organized. They answered every single question and did not rush me when I asked the questions. They completed the appraisal in a timely manner, and the presentation was very comprehensible. I would hire them 1000 times over if I had to do this again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for an appraisal of their home."

"The technician, Spencer, was extremely professional and courteous. He communicated all details about what his visit would consist of and how much it would cost. He also was very punctual and kept me in the loop about what time he would arrive. He did a thorough inspection and discovered that I didn’t need to test for mold, but he located a leak in our roof that we have been struggling with. He went above and beyond with service—I highly recommend Pure Air."

"The crawlspace of our 1930s home is small and challenging. Acculevel did a great job removing the old logs and stones that were holding up our floor joists, and replaced them with steel jacks. The men who performed the work were very hard workers. I corresponded with Acculevel via email after the work was performed to get photos and questions answered prior to us paying the invoice. They were very patient in answering all of our questions. It has only been a week, so I can't say whether the work will hold up, but so far our floors seem less squeaky! The only thing I would have changed is the fact that the vapor barrier they installed is not taped at the seams or walls. If you want it taped, make sure to ask for that during the quoting phase."

"Remmy contacted me quickly and came out the next day to check out my roof. Over the phone I told him I had a newborn so he was nice and called when he was outside instead of ringing the doorbell in case my son was sleeping. For the inspection he showed me pictures of what was wrong and what they would do to fix it. Remmy and his crew came out and fixed the problem quickly as well as making sure there was no other problems. They will always be my first to come to if I have roofing problems."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

You’ll know you have smoke damage if you notice a lingering smoky odor, see soot or residue, or spot any discoloration of surfaces in your home. If you have any kind of house fire, always assume you have smoke damage and hire a professional who deals with smoke damage to assess the extent of the damage and restore your home to its pre-fire condition.

If the anode rod is no longer protecting your tank, you’ll spot telltale signs when you turn on a faucet. A bad anode rod can cause discoloration in your water, a rotten egg smell, intermittent hot water, and air in the water lines. Since these are symptoms of sediment damage to your water heater, don’t wait for them to occur before checking on the anode rod.

Yes, home additions almost always increase a home's value and can be a good investment by enhancing both its utility and square footage. The actual return depends on several factors, including the type of addition, quality of work, and local market conditions. Key additions like extra bedrooms, bathrooms, and larger kitchens tend to offer the highest returns. For example, adding a primary suite might result in a 63% return on investment, while a sunroom may yield around a 49% return. For the best results, additions should be well-planned to integrate seamlessly with the existing structure.

Yes, in most cases, you can negotiate and make a counteroffer after a home inspection. If the inspection reveals issues with the property, you can use these findings as leverage to reduce the purchase price. Your counteroffer should account for the estimated cost of necessary repairs, and it's important to find a reasonable balance to increase the chances of the seller accepting. The main exception is if you waived the home inspection contingency to make your offer more appealing. In that situation, while you can still have an inspection done for your own information, you have no contractual recourse to make a counteroffer based on the results.

Any unexplained smell in your house should be investigated. However, some home odors are "red flag" worrisome because they pose immediate health and safety risks. Odors should be taken seriously when accompanied by headaches, nausea, or lightheadedness. If you smell an egg-like aroma, this is probably natural gas. You should leave the home immediately, and  contact your gas company.
