I am Jared Keplinger and I began Keplinger Construction in May of 2004. Since then we have remodeled many wonderful homes and businesses in St. Louis. St. Louis is the best large small-town around. I am from the small town of Marquette, Michigan and grew up a few blocks from Lake Superior. With five brothers and six sisters, I grew up in a loving family, and today, my wife and I have four children. Like you, I want to provide for my family a steady livelihood and also a nurturing environment. This is why I started Keplinger Construction. After working in the construction industry for years, I learned to do everything from rough framing to finished cabinetry. I saw what fine carpentry can do to turn a house into a home and desired to provide quality workmanship for others to enjoy. I believe that the home nurtures the family. This is why our motto is “by the work, one knows the workman.” If you choose Keplinger Construction, I pledge to relate to you with integrity, address you with kindness, be fair in my cost estimates, and provide you with an excellent product.

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Most installations take 1-3 days, depending on customization and venting setup.

Mudding drywall is a DIY-friendly project, but patience and practice are required for perfection. If you’re working in a highly visible area and want the best possible finish, hiring a professional drywaller is worth the cost. Pros have the tools and know-how to ensure a smooth surface with fewer sanding sessions and less cleanup.

You should wait at least 24 hours between each coat of drywall mud before sanding and adding another coat. This ensures the mud dries completely, although drying time depends on temperature, humidity, and the type of compound used. Lightweight muds dry faster, while heavier all-purpose compounds take longer. Always check for firmness and dryness before sanding or applying the next layer.

Regular inspections, repainting, and avoiding moisture exposure help maintain integrity.

It is less expensive to install a drywall ceiling. Drop ceilings are generally more costly to install than drywall, but they're also easier to install. Drywall sheets are heavier than drop ceilings—weighing in at about 60 pounds each—so if you hire a pro, they may charge a little more for labor. You should also factor in paint costs for a drywall ceiling. The least expensive drywall ceiling option is the standard, smooth variety.
