"Great company, The owner was on scene the entire time overseeing and even participating in every aspect of the project. The project was estimated to take six hours and took five hours and 58 minutes which was incredible. Everything was cleaned up and left me with a great curb appeal for my house. I am a paraplegic that needs to have a driveway level and smooth so I may get around effortlessly in my wheelchair to access my vehicles and also not have any barriers to my home. I would definitely recommend this company to anybody who would inquire"

"I had initially talked to a different vendor for these services.  When it was clear that the original vendor was not going to perform, I looked at Angie's List and found SealKC.  I called them on October 5th.  They gave me estimates on the 8th, did the garage floor on the 20th, and sealed the driveway on the 23rd.  They were really great to work with, they kept me informed about times and dates, and they even had more and better choices for color flakes for the garage floor than the original vendor.  Some gravel managed to get into the garage floor surface before the final epoxy coat had dried, so they came back a few days later and re-did the top coat.  I'm very satisfied.

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.

New asphalt goes through two stages: drying and curing. Drying typically takes 24 to 72 hours, after which the surface is solid enough for light use like walking or careful driving. While you may be able to park on it after 72 hours, the surface is still soft and should be treated gently. Full curing is a much longer process, taking anywhere from 30 days to a full year for the asphalt to reach maximum strength. During this extended curing period, the asphalt is susceptible to damage from heavy vehicles, sharp objects, and high temperatures. Factors like weather, the specific asphalt mix, and application thickness all influence drying and curing times. For the most accurate timeline and to ensure the longevity of your new asphalt, it is always best to consult with your installation contractor for their specific recommendations.

In most cases, you don’t need a permit to repave your driveway, although some exceptions exist. If you’re widening your driveway and plan on widening the apron as well, you’ll usually need a permit from the Department of Transportation in your area. This permit costs between $50 and $300 in most cases. Most municipalities will also require a certified and insured contractor do the work relating to the apron and curb cut. You can contact your building department or ask your paving company if you need a permit. Your driveway professional will usually pull the permit for you.

Driveway paving costs around $4,500 on average, but depending on many factors, you could pay anywhere from $2,500 to $6,600 or more. The size of your driveway will usually be the most significant factor, with more square footage increasing your costs. You can expect to pay between $2 and $15 per square foot for paving services. Some other factors that play a role include the following:

  • Quality of the materials

  • Contractor’s experience and expertise

  • Site preparation and grading, if necessary

  • Layout of your driveway

While paving a driveway is possible to do as a DIY project, we don’t recommend it. Hiring a driveway professional to pave it will ensure that your driveway looks neat and clean and lasts for years to come, and it will also prevent a weak driveway and, potentially, damage to your foundation. Paving a driveway requires heavy machinery, and while you can rent the equipment needed, operating it close to your garage slab or around your home’s foundation can crack it and lead to structural issues.
