"The guys came out to look at the job and give me a quote. I got the quote, but apparently it didn’t cover the whole scope of the work. There were add-Ons that I thought would’ve been included in the original fees. I don’t know about asphalt work, but I do know quality work, and I felt it was lacking. The guys did communicate with me and tried to work with me and the project. In all fairness, my driveway was is disrepair and it does look better."

"05/27/20 Could not be happier. The work completed was to the highest of standards. I literally can not find any tar in the gras on the sides of the drive way. In the 10 years of owning a home this the the best Sealcoat I have gotten from as many companies. Best of all was the price for the job this team had completed. I couldn't believe it. I will be using them every year. The standard of performance was outstanding with much attention to detail. The owner is very polite and professional. I highly recommend this company."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Several materials are suitable for steep driveways. Gravel and crushed stone are affordable options that provide good traction. Permeable pavers—such as plastic, rubber, or concrete—filled with gravel or crushed stones are also excellent, as they allow water to drain without causing erosion and perform well in ice and snow. Another option is resin, which can be coated with an anti-slip finish and helps prevent puddles. For added stability, you can install a retaining wall to prevent pavers and gravel from shifting over time.

In the United States, roads are usually categorized as one of three types: public roads, other drivable roads, and non-drivable roads. These categories dictate how a road can be used; a non-drivable road might be classified that way because it is heavily damaged and unsafe for cars.

There’s no single best asphalt grade—it all comes down to where and how it’s used. Highways and heavy-traffic roads need something tough, like polymer-modified asphalt (PMA) or Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA). Local roads and parking lots rely on the Performance Graded (PG) system, chosen based on climate. A PG 64-28 mix, for example, handles a broad temperature range while simpler, more cost-effective mixes are typically enough for residential driveways. The best grade of asphalt depends on traffic, weather, and your budget, which is why a professional’s input is always a smart move before making a decision.

Three inches is a great thickness for a residential asphalt driveway that sees minimal to moderate traffic from cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks. However, a thicker driveway can better withstand the weight of a heavier vehicle, such as a trailer or a recreational vehicle. If you drive a heavy vehicle on a thin driveway, you risk cracking and damaging it.

Chip seal layers gravel and a liquid bitumen one at a time on-site, while asphalt directly pours a pre-combined mixture. Asphalt must be sealed, but it will last up to four times as long as chip seal driveways. Aesthetically, chip seal has a natural, rustic look compared to the traditional asphalt slab.
