"Our salesman, Nathan was very informative and helpful through our whole project. Erica kept us informed about installing schedule. Even with delays, Erica made sure I had the latest information and never hesitate to call. Our installer for the shower was very polite and made sure he had all supplies. He installed the shower in one day. The counter top was installed three days later. The installer was polite and even came up with solutions when the installed plumbing needed adjustments."

"Thank you Jericho. I felt that the team really listened to what I was trying to accomplish. The Senior Designer, Project Manager, Installers, Support Specialist, and General Manager all helped me. I felt that a team of angels lead me to completion. The improvements I needed made me feel good about my house again. The team was kind, patient, professional, respectful, smart and knowable. In the end, I have new half bath, new floors and a new countertop. Thanks again for your help and I will refer Jericho Home Improvement to other tasks as we'll as family and friends. Linda S. "Overall, we were pleased. The one flaw that could have been corrected was a "heads up " they were going to cut the holes for the sink and drop in stove on sight in the kitchen. We are still cleaning out the dust that descended everywhere. The company we used previously for our bathroom countertop carried the slabs back outside and made the alterations. The salespeople were very easy to negotiate with and the countertop looks terrific."

Stone Countertops questions, answered by experts

Installing new kitchen countertops costs $1,850 to $4,450, with an average price of $3,140. Some materials, like marble and granite, are more expensive than others. Additionally, the size of the countertop impacts the overall price. Labor accounts for 10% to 20% of the overall project cost. Add-ons, like edging and corner treatments, also increase the cost.

Using water when cutting stone drastically reduces the amount of dust that comes off the stone. It’s beneficial to cut down on the amount of dust for respiratory and other safety reasons, such as keeping your vision clear while using an electric tool. Even with protective eyewear, the dust can still cloud your safety glasses. You should always wear protective gear when cutting stone.

Quartzite is more expensive than granite, largely because of its rarity. Granite is naturally more common. A granite slab generally costs $40 to $60 per square foot (excluding super-rare types), while quartzite slabs cost anywhere from $50 to $150 per square foot.

With both materials, it’s usually more affordable to purchase stones that are readily available in your location. You may need to import other stones, which come at a higher cost.

There are three main downsides to quartzite: the cost, the porosity, and the weight. As a natural stone, there’s a level of scarcity that can drive up the price of certain types of quartzite. Even more common varieties are less affordable than synthetic materials like laminate and other natural stones like granite.

You’ll also have to reseal your quartzite countertop annually to combat the natural porosity and reinforce your cabinets to account for the added weight.

The cost to install a quartz countertop is around $60 to $150 per square foot, so it’s more affordable than high-end stainless steel. The costs are similar if you’re looking for a natural stone, like quartzite.
