"The pro quickly found the electrical problem..but said anopther appt would be made to repair. I remember the initial information was..if the repair can be made then..that would be done. However the pro then proceeded to go thru my home and look at plug ins, alarms, etc. I really didnt know why other than he said part of their visit was to be sure the home was safe electrically. He then gave me 3 proposals of things my home needed. The most extreme was 29.000$. I I said all I wanted was the 1 problem fixed..he told me that would be $1089! Again I was stunned at the high price to repair. I certainly should have said No thank you and end the process. But I needed it repaired. It was scheduled for the next day. It did take a longer time for the repairmen to arrive..said GPS problem. He finished the repair in a good time..but said he didnt have anycaulk/sealer to put around the outside receptacle in his truck. I would consider that item an easy needed product to have on the truck."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

In short, no. You can use the square footage range chart in this article to determine the right size ceiling fan for both indoor and outdoor spaces. However, weather elements can damage types of ceiling fans that aren't designed for outdoor use, so your ceiling fan should be weather-resistant if you plan to install it outside.

Keeping dust off fans can keep them working optimally and help keep dust mites or bacteria from building up. Dust fans weekly with a duster, microfiber cloth, old pillowcase, or vacuum attachment. You can also try spraying a clean fan with a store-bought dust-repellent product or making a DIY dust-repellent with water and a small amount of liquid fabric softener mixed in.

Often, your existing ceiling fan can accommodate adding a light fixture. The wiring is typically below the fan motor. If you’re adding a ceiling fan to where a light fixture used to be, ensure the electrical mounting box is rated for that use or retrofit one in the location. Not all types of ceiling fan mounting brackets support adding light fixtures.

Yes, you can install a ceiling fan where there is already a light fixture. The electrical wiring needed to install a ceiling fan is similar to that of a light fixture. Before you make the swap, consider whether you need an extension rod and whether your ceiling is on an angle. You will need a fan-rated electrical box to ensure that your ceiling is sturdy enough to handle a spinning fan.

Ceiling fans are very often worth the investment because they improve comfort in your living space and help reduce utility bills. In the late spring and early fall—and even in the summer in some areas—homeowners with ceiling fans can often get away with open windows and fans, which can cut down on cooling bills and also reduce wear and tear on the HVAC system. Over time, ceiling fans can pay for themselves by saving you money on electric bills and air conditioner repair and maintenance.
