"I hired this company to clean the air ducts and spray for brown recluse spiders which our other pest control company had not been able to eliminate in 15 months. Healthy Home cleaned the duct work which I was very pleased with. They were neat and clean with their work, prompt and efficient. I can't say that I'm as pleased with the bug spraying. They put powder down around the baseboard in the closets. It was EVERYWHERE and so thick. I cleaned it up some but left some around the baseboards to poison the spiders. The spray in the rest of the house was all over my hardwood floors. We had gone for a very heavy treatment to get the brown recluse so I excused this. However, I just had a quarterly spraying done and I had voiced my concerns to the technician about the spray on the hardwood and asked that he be more restrained in the spraying. The spray was again on the hardwood but not quite as bad but I have spray ON my desk, the bathroom cabinets, the kitchen cabinets, my china cabinet. I have had to clean all of this off and then he also sprayed in front of the TV cabinet, the china cabinet, the buffet so the spray is all over the hardwood floor but not near the baseboard. Who sprays in front of the furniture? The brown recluse travel around the baseboard, not out in the middle of the floor. THe smell of the spray when I disturb it when cleaning it up travels throughout the entire house. VERY disappointed but I will voice my concerns to the company. So yes, I would strongly recommend them for duct work cleaning but the bug spraying is still very much in the air.. but I've only seen one brown recluse so that's good."

Pest Control questions, answered by experts

You’ll find that phorid fly larvae breed in moist, decaying, organic matter. When trying to locate a breeding site, thoroughly inspect the following places in your home: drain pipes, trash cans, garbage disposal, pet waste, rotting produce, plants, compost bins, and even under appliances like the stove and refrigerator where moist food may have dropped. It’s also possible for a breeding site to form inside of a wall, crawl space, or under your home’s foundation.

Poison will kill small rodents and can seem like the quick and easy way to get rid of them. But—in addition to its inhumane nature—poison has some drawbacks. First of all, if you have small children or pets in the home, setting out poison isn't the best idea, as your pets or children could ingest it.

Poisoned mice and rodents don't die instantly. Instead, it can take several days for the poison to work its way through their system. In the meantime, there's a chance that a predator, such as a cat, fox, or other mammal, will eat the poisoned rodent and become poisoned themselves.

Metal coil-shaped retriever tools (around $50) help remove empty nests and debris from chimneys. Unless you are sure the nest is vacant, we recommend calling in a pro to handle bird’s nest removal from chimneys, vents, roofs, and other hard-to-reach places.

Yes, cockroaches can climb into most beds. It’s not always their first choice, but they may be attracted to the warmth of a bed and mattress. They’re much more likely to hop aboard if someone eats food in bed. Don’t let crumbs or clutter accumulate in your bed or face a potential roach infestation.

Aside from a warm, cozy place to curl up, you might wonder what attracts mice to your home. Several items attract mice, including: Birdseed Pet food Water Cereal and whole grains Food scraps from the composting bin Open trash cans High-fat and high-sugar foods Unused cars—they make great homes for chilly mice Insulation in the attic Clutter Brush from your yard, including leaves, sticks, wood, and shrubs (so mice can make nests) Overgrown trees or bushes—mice love to leap from branches onto the roof Indoor nesting materials, including cloth, paper, tissues, and toilet paper Tiny cracks in the siding or foundation
