"Victor and his team were exceptional. The trimming needs were carefully analyzed as dangerous tree limbs were removed from two very large oak trees thus preventing damage to two homes and garage. All remaining debris including some very large limbs were removed from the property. A and M Tree services exceeded my expectations. I would definitely hire them again in the future. Monica B. Ferguson, Mo."

"I recommend A & M Tree Services LLC because they do excellent work at fair prices. They responded to my request for an estimate quickly and arrived on time to provide it. I accepted it and there was an opening the next day. The crew arrived the next morning and had my large tree removed and the yard cleaned up by afternoon."

"We cannot say enough good things about Jay’s Firewood and Mulch. This was our second time using them, and once again, they exceeded every expectation. They came out to cut down two very large, very dead trees that were an extreme hazard. After seeing how dangerous the trees were, they recognized immediately that they needed to come down right away. Their professionalism, knowledge, and urgency truly stood out. Not only did they safely remove both trees, but they also cleaned up all of the debris and left everything looking great. Their level of care and professionalism is unmatched. Honestly, they essentially saved our lives by taking care of such a dangerous situation before something terrible happened. We will absolutely continue using Jay’s Firewood and Mulch and will recommend them to everyone we know. Reliable, professional, hardworking, and genuinely caring, we are so thankful for them!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

The safest way to cut down a tree is to make sure you’re completely prepared and have done all the necessary safety checks, including double-checking your equipment is in good working order, you have plenty of clearance to fell the tree, you’re wearing all the safety gear, and you have a partner to help you (who should also be wearing safety gear).

You’ll have to balance up the cost, the value of the tree (sentimental or otherwise), and the risk factors. An experienced arborist will help you understand whether transplanting is likely to be successful. The cost and hassle of transplanting a large, well-established tree are often not worth it, especially if the species is fast-growing and easy to source. The decision depends on the age and species of the tree, the conditions in the new site location, and how careful the company is when digging out and moving the tree.

We recommend removing the stump, and grinding is a popular way to do it. You can also dig out small stumps or stumps that have fully decayed instead of grinding them. However, don’t try using acids or fire for killing a tree stump, which is a fire hazard and illegal in many areas.

Leaving the stump alone invites eventual problems, including attracting termites, mold, and fungi.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

Whether you should remove the roots of a dead tree depends on whether they’re damaging nearby areas. For instance, if the roots continue to grow near sidewalks, driveways, or the foundation of your home, they can cause damage. If you want to plant something else in that spot, removing the roots can make it easier for the new tree or plant to grow.
