Small jobs welcome

"Poetry in motion! Precision work with meticulous attention to detail, makes "Clean Lines" the perfect name for this business! We highly recommend these guys! Steven, the owner, was professional, friendly and easy to work with. He gave us a very reasonable bid, exhibited excellent communication skills, followed through on everything he said without exception, was adept at working around the weather to achieve the highest standard of best practices for the specific paint type that we had chosen, and was overall just a joy to work with! He was also willing to share his extensive knowledge about paint products, best practices, long-term care, and more, when asked. Steven and his helper, Cody, work together like a well-oiled machine; they are timely in their work, while delivering neatness and quality without compromise. Clean Lines is the benchmark for quality and precision in painting!"

This is the second time that we have hired The Painting Company.  The first time was for an interior job in 2012.

This time they painted the full exterior of the home including pressure wash of the entire exterior.  They also made minor siding repairs as needed.  They painted all of the siding, the gables, and all window casings on both the ground floor and a very high second floor.

Dave and Lynn (the owners) are very knowledgeable and personable.  Both times, Lynn has had good ideas to suggest about accent colors, etc and has helped us to select the paint colors. They have always done a quality job.  We will be hiring them back again this spring for our wood deck.

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

There’s no single paint that’s the most waterproof. Instead, there are several types of waterproof and water-resistant paints that suit different purposes. Epoxy paint, for instance, is commonly used to provide a waterproof coating to floors and decks. Masonry paint is an excellent choice for exterior walls. Meanwhile, there are waterproof acrylic paints that can be used for interior and exterior walls. It’s more about choosing the best type for what you’re painting instead of the most waterproof paint overall.

Aftercare includes routine cleaning, checking for water repellency, and promptly addressing any chips or peels, maintaining the deck's appearance and functionality.

It’s necessary for paint to completely dry before exposure to rain, and that drying time varies by the type of paint used. Oil-based paint takes 6 to 8 hours to dry on average, meaning that’s the minimum time needed between the last brush stroke and the first raindrop. Latex paint dries faster at around 1 hour, and acrylic paint is even quicker, usually drying in about 30 minutes. If rain is in the forecast, check the paint manufacturer's details before laying on a new coat.

It is definitely worth sanding a deck to ensure the wood absorbs new stain. Sanding a deck removes the outer layers of aging wood, allowing the stain to penetrate. It also gives a fresh look to the entire surface as part of the deck refinishing process. Without sanding, your stain or sealant is less likely to absorb into the wood. While sanding a deck is a time-intensive project, the rewards are noticeable and long-lasting.

The general consensus is that two coats of stain are required and since the cedar is siding, a third coat of sealant is always a good idea. This helps protect the wood and stain, so you won’t need to resand and restain for at least a decade. Each stain after the first will darken the wood, so be aware of that when choosing a colored stain.
