"Had couple issues, they left some nails on the ground and apparently on the roof that keeps coming off onto my patio in heavy rains. When it rained my skylight leaked, stained my ceiling. I called and they came right back out and fixed it in the rain. Didn't do anything with my stained ceiling though. Skylight is pretty nice."

"They were very good about fixing the skylight and he got on the roof and seen some other issues with our other skylight and fixed it for free. He was all about making sure we didn't have any other problems. I would use them again for roofing or skylights."

"This company is the BEST!!!  From the owners Matt & Katie, to the installers, we were floored with the top-notch professionalism, craftmanship and low price!  My husband and I replaced 14 windows on our 1980's home, we were cautious and got several bids, Matt & Katie came in so low we wondered what kind of quality windows we would get.  Well let me say to any prospective buyers out there...you will not be disappointed!!  Our new windows are absolutely beautiful!!  The installers were skilled and very efficient at their trade, they were also some of the kindest people ive met, very aware and courteous and respectful to my family and pets during the installation which was apx 2 days.  I never, not once had any problems with call backs or explanations from Matt, he was super to work with, always answering every question so that i felt comfortable and assured.  I highly recommend VantagePoint Exteriors to any and all, First Class A-1 Company!!

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Repairing or replacing a skylight generally takes between a few hours to a full day. Simple repairs might take 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the problem. The total time can vary based on factors like weather conditions, the accessibility of the skylight, and the extent of the work required, such as replacing the entire unit versus performing minor repairs.

In most cases, installing skylights will add value to your home, making them a worthwhile investment for many homeowners. Buyers are often attracted to the aesthetic appeal of skylights, as they make rooms feel brighter, airier, and more spacious by introducing natural light without compromising privacy. Beyond aesthetics, skylights can offer monetary benefits by potentially reducing energy bills. Additionally, models that can be opened provide extra ventilation, which is particularly useful in hotter climates for allowing accumulated hot air to escape from the ceiling. However, the return on investment depends on several factors. To maximize value, it's crucial that the skylights are installed by an experienced professional to avoid risks like water damage, which can deter savvy buyers. Regular maintenance and cleaning are also important. Furthermore, choosing the right frame and glazing materials for your specific climate will enhance their performance and appeal. While skylights are generally seen as an asset, homeowners should also consider the initial cost, which averages around $1,500 for installation.

Fixed skylights are by far the most popular type. Because skylights can be pretty high up on your ceiling, fixed (rather than operable) skylights remove some maintenance from the equation. Plus, you don’t have to constantly worry if you shut your skylight fully the last time you opened it or if you’re going to find a leak later on during a rainy day.

Pros of installing a skylight include the fact that you will get much more natural light in your home, skylights can make your room look bigger than it actually is, and your home may increase in value. Cons include difficult upkeep (you may have to get on a ladder to clean and maintain them), higher installation costs, and, potentially, too much heat gain from all the extra sunlight.

Leaks are the top concern for skylights, often due to improper installation or worn-out seals. Over time, water can seep in and cause major damage to your home’s ceilings and walls. Other common issues include condensation, which leads to mold, as well as physical damage from weather or debris. If they’re not sealed properly, skylights can also bring unwanted heat in the summer or cold in the winter, affecting your home’s energy efficiency and tacking on extra dollars to your bills.
