"I just pay $75 you never know who's going to come out. They do everything electrical. Just about everything is covered except the septic tank. I had an air conditioner replaced. It went great, all I had to do was pay for the freon. He didn't charge e more than what was needed."

Largu Plumbing & Piping Systems
New to Angi

Serving Lamar, MO and surrounding areas

In business since 2004

I started this company in 2004 after moving from Baltimore Maryland, so I could help my aging parents. Since then I've noticed the Mid-West friendliness, which I find so refreshing after living in a big city for 26 years. I bring that same neighborly attitude to all my customers, and provide careful and exacting workmanship. \n\nI've been in some sort of construction or another since I was 18 years old, serving 2 apprenticeships as a Plumber and a Pipe Fitter, making me not only a Plumber but a Jack-of-all-Trades who enjoys challenges of all kinds.\n\nLargu Plumbing & Piping Systems is looking forward to finishing your project as a friendly neighbor!

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

Ideally, you should conduct a mechanical inspection and a bacterial or well water inspection yearly. While you might be able to push it off to every other year, it’s best to have peace of mind, especially when it comes to something that you use so frequently.

If you experience repeated gastrointestinal illness in the household, it's important to test the well water more regularly for quality and cleanliness to check for bacteria.

If you aren’t sure if you have a septic tank or a cesspit, you can check your property records or inspect your drainage system. A septic tank has an outlet pipe that allows liquid to drain into a soakaway or drain field, while a cesspit is a sealed tank that requires frequent emptying. If you notice a manhole cover and no nearby drainage field, it’s likely a cesspit. Signs like slow drainage or a frequent need for pumping can also provide clues. A professional inspection is the easiest way to confirm if your home runs on a septic tank or cesspit.

Never use Drano on blocked toilets. You can end up with a ghastly leak because the chemicals eat away at the glue that holds pipes together just as effectively as they do with clogs. Drano is known for being particularly rough on toilets, which is why some plumbers actually dislike the product.

Most home wells start at 100 feet, and many go as deep as 200 or 300 feet

It takes quite a lot of water to meet the demands of showers, toilets, faucets, and appliances like dishwashers and laundry machines, and shallow wells struggle to provide this amount quickly. If you anticipate having high water usage in the future, it’s often better to drill slightly deeper and give yourself a bit more water storage than you need.

The average cost to replace a septic tank or install a new system is typically around $7,350, with a broader average range of $5,000 to $12,000. However, total project costs can vary widely, from $5,000 to as much as $22,500. Key factors influencing the price include the size and type of the septic system, the tank material, and the size of your house.

It's important to distinguish between the cost of the tank itself and the cost of the entire system installation, which is significantly more. For the tank alone, costs vary by size:

  • A tank for a one-bedroom house typically costs $500 to $900.

  • A 1,000-gallon tank, suitable for most one- to three-bedroom homes, costs between $900 and $1,500.

  • A tank for a five- or six-bedroom home generally costs $1,200 to $1,600.
