"We were very pleased with the work done. Charles came by between jobs to inspect our two chimneys and provided a quote immediately after discussing the options and his recommendation. He did not suggest relaying rows of bricks, which would have been much more expensive and was not necessary in his estimation. They grinded and tuckpointed the upper portions of two chimneys and repaired cracks and openings in both crowns. They used a small boon that still extended 25-30 feet high, which allowed them to do the work in one day. They arrived on time, tarped the areas, and cleaned off the roof and patio and yard areas when finished. He took before and after photos as well. Very professional throughout the project."

"They did a great job, they cleaned and inspected both fireplaces as requested and gave a detailed inspection with pictures showing damage with a quote that was emailed 24 hours later. We have white carpets throughout our house and I was worried that they would be stained. I could not see any evidence of soot when the work was finished."

A simple method is to check for airflow by placing your hand near the fireplace opening; if you feel a draft or hear wind whistling, the damper is open. An open damper might also make the room feel cooler, similar to the outdoor temperature, or cause your HVAC system to work harder than usual. For a more definitive test, you can try a visual inspection, although it may be difficult to see. Alternatively, you can light a small piece of paper and observe the smoke; if it is drawn up the chimney, the damper is open. Always use the damper handle to adjust its position.
