I'm a skilled handyman and landscaper which includes being a great painter of interiors and exteriors, tile work, moving furniture, repair of furniture and lots of things inside and out of the house, assembly and installation of appliances, furniture and fixtures around the house, some plumbing, and all things landscaping, particularly planting and removing trees, hauling trash out, window cleaning and gutter work. I also sit and walk dogs.

Lawns questions, answered by experts

Aeration is most effective when the soil is slightly moist but not excessively dry or waterlogged. If your lawn's soil is extremely dry, consider watering it a day or two before aeration to facilitate the process. Conversely, avoid aerating when the soil is saturated or excessively wet, as it can lead to poor aeration results and potential damage to your lawn. Finding the right moisture balance is crucial for successful lawn aeration.

Yes—lawn renovation can turn your lawn from damaged to healthy in one month or less. You should also consider lawn renovation an investment in your home’s future. Not only will a lawn renovation ensure that you have a beautiful, healthy, and thriving lawn, but when it comes time to sell your home, the curb appeal will increase your home’s value.

DIY is possible with rental equipment, but professional services ensure even and thorough aeration.

You can reseed a rundown lawn with dead grass, but first, you should remove all of the dead parts and test the soil. Doing this will help you understand what’s killing your lawn so that you can fix it and prevent it from ruining your new grass. Once you’ve made the appropriate adjustments, you can rake, fertilize, and reseed.

Experts typically recommend aerating your lawn about once per year, but your aeration frequency will depend on your soil type, lawn condition, and other factors. For instance, you should aerate annually if you have clay-heavy soil or frequent foot traffic in your backyard. However, if your soil is loose or sandy and you don't use your yard often, you can probably aerate every other year.
