"I called 7 fencing contractors that service the Lee's Summit area. David answered the first call and was able to quickly get me a quote and take time to explain the different options and pros and cons of Black Aluminum vs Ornamental Iron. Very easy to talk to and the price was very competitive. They were able to start quickly (some fence companies are months out) The craftsmanship was phenomenal. He also took care to not damage the sod in the yard (its a new build with fresh sod) and to leave a the area as clean as it was when he arrived. I would strongly suggest Gold Fence to anyone out there that is looking. The small personal touches do make a difference."

Wrought Iron FAQs, answered by experts

While many fence companies and fence material retailers refer to their metal fencing as wrought iron fencing, most of it is actually ornamental wrought iron fence. This means that the fence is made to look like traditional wrought iron but is actually made out of either steel or aluminum. Old wrought iron fences typically found at estate sales or on older properties are much heavier and much more prone to rust than the ornamental wrought iron that newer homes and fences use.

Options include ornamental designs, custom gates, and various finishes. Consult with your installer for customization.

The depth of the fence posts depends on the height of your fence. If you’re installing a 6-foot fence, then digging 2-foot-deep holes for the fence posts will help ensure a secure installation. However, if you’re installing an 8-foot fence, the posts will need to be deeper than 2 feet to support the structure properly. Also, consider how far apart the fence posts should be to provide adequate support.

You don't need gravel under metal fence posts, but it's always a good idea to add it in. Adding about six inches of gravel before you pour concrete will provide better water drainage, which can help to prolong the lifespan of your new fence and maximize its stability.

Pictures of the area where you want your handrail installed should help get an accurate estimate. You should also let your professional know how accessible the installation location is, and whether or not there is a pre-existing railing to remove. Also, before contacting the pro, take some time to decide what type of wrought iron you are leaning toward.

Finally, have the overall length of your railing at the ready, so you can discuss prefabricated options versus custom-made options.
