"I had a small project where I needed someone to install some ceramic tiles on an outside patio and I hired these guys to do it. Two guys showed up. They did a great job, cleaned up afterwards and helped out so I was very happy."

"I do not know where to begin because I am so very pleased with everything that they did! They were very efficient, polite and the finished project is over and above what I could have expected! At one point, they needed one more thing to finish up in a room. The man said that he would come back on Saturday. I told him that he absolutely did not have to do that. He made sure that I would be here on Saturday at 9 A.M. He cam at exactly 9, finished the job and was out of here by 9:30.They were very polite and I did not worry one bit about having them in my home. I would highly recommend Murphy to any one at any time. I forgot to say that that there were 3 different crews here at 3 different times and all of them were the same! I could not be more satisfied. The customer service was excellent as well! Thank you a million times over!"

"The pros were great! Job looks amazing and they provided excellent customer service. They helped us pick out our tile at the tile store, provided great design suggestions, and even showed up in a snowstorm to keep the job on track."

"Matt arrived on time and was efficient at replacing floor tiles. Do you think customer service is gone, well so did we until Matt Hemingway came to replace three broken tiles. He finished in 90 minutes and that included going back to hardware store for a different color grout because he didn't like the way it looked. When done you could not tell the floor had been fixed. Excellent job. Highly recommend."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Tile installation can be expensive because it requires more time and labor to install than many other materials. For example, laminate flooring can click and lock into place, and carpet comes in large rolls that you can secure to the floor. On the other hand, tiles need to be cut, laid individually, grouted, and left to cure.

To ensure an even and unbending surface to lay tiles on, you’ll typically need to put a subfloor under a tile floor. Fiber cement backboards are the most common choice, but using plywood is also possible. Don’t neglect this step, or you could risk water damage and grout or tiles prematurely cracking or crumbling, especially in an area with high foot traffic.

Yes, your shower pan goes underneath your tiling and helps prevent excess water from seeping into the floor. Without the shower pan under your tile, water will seep through the grout and into the flooring. This will eventually lead to mold growth and serious water damage that could cost thousands of dollars to fix.

If you’re looking for a durable tile for a shower floor, consider porcelain, stone, or vinyl tiles. Each of these options, when installed correctly, will stand up well to everything from water and moisture to the impact from a dropped bottle of body wash. These materials are also easy to clean and maintain, making them popular options for shower floors.

Like glass tiles, you will not need to seal most porcelain tiles, particularly if the porcelain is already glazed. It depends on quality. Porcelain is very water resistant, but it is not 100% waterproof. To avoid staining, some homeowners use a penetrating sealer. It is also a good idea to seal your grout. Unless you use epoxy grout, grout is very porous and can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew.
