"They did an excellent job. I had two trees near my house that they took down. One was very large and starting to split down the middle only ten feet away from the house."

"I would recommend B&B Tree Services to anyone who wants the job done right!  Lots of people can take down a tree, but I can honestly say that B&B Tree Services not only eliminated the blight of several weed trees that had sprung up over the years, but left my yard tidy and renewed.  I also appreciated how their representative explained the quote to me, showing step-by-step how the total was derived.  I recommend having them grind out the stumps, even for smaller trees those suckers will never come back!!!  Three cheers for a job well done"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Ideally, you should wait to prune until trees have gone dormant in late fall to early winter. The worst times to prune trees are early fall and late summer, as pruning them so close to dormancy makes it difficult for the tree recover before it goes dormant for the season.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

Not every arborist climbs trees, but most will do so if that’s the best method for assessing or treating a tree. Arborists have a variety of tree climbing gear and safety equipment to choose from when climbing trees. Consult your local arborist about their tree-climbing plan if your service requires that type of task.

After a big storm, you may not be sure if a tree was struck or not. Look for the telltale long scars, like strips or gouges in the bark of the tree, running in sometimes jagged lines down the length of the trunk. These scars will often show vulnerable living wood inside the tree. It’s also common to see scorched or wilted leaves on the side or top of the tree where lightning struck.

The cost of professional tree service, such as trimming, is $460 on average, but the price can range from $75 to $1,800. A more typical range is between $200 and $760. The final price depends on several factors, including the size and type of the tree. For example, trimming Crepe Myrtle trees costs an average of $80 to $400, while giant pine trees can range from $200 to $1,800. Other factors that influence the cost include the time of year, as services are often more expensive in the spring. Your location can also play a role; costs may be higher if you live in a remote area or if the tree is difficult to access. However, some professionals may offer a discount if you have multiple trees that need service.
