"Construction & More built a straight and level brick mailbox post with the mailbox permanently in the brick. They started with a concrete foundation in the ground. They did not have a “printed plan” on paper but built what I wanted from my hand drawn picture and an IPhone photo of another post in my neighborhood. We just needed to order a cap stone for the top of the post and it will fit on the top of the post in the custom size the post is built. The brick mason was skilled and we just had to get him started using my hand drawing and photo. It will be in front of my house forever."

"We were so lucky to have the community support from Girard Homes! They helped us remove an old dance floor, which was water and mold damaged and then installed our new dance floor. As a nonprofit, professional dance company and school, to have the help and quality of work Girard Homes provided, is so greatly needed and appreciated. I would absolutely hire them to do additional work on our own home. Thank you!"

"Jacob was extremely responsive and dependable. He showed up each day on time. He completed the project on time. The detail of the work that he performed was excellent. He came back days later to inspect his work for any flaws. The cleanup was also excellent. You would never have known that anyone had been here except for the fact that my house looks brand new. I would recommend him to anyone. Nice job Complete Custom Renovations!!!"

"The technician did an excellent job. It did take a while to get the repair finished, but that was due to Bertazzoni delivering the parts. I have had multiple problems with this particular appliance. My range now works better than it did when new, but I have a feeling that even if I have continuing problems with it, American Home Shield will just repair rather than replace due to the cost of the range. By the way, I'm not exactly sure of the date of the repair."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

Framing is often the most expensive phase of building a house because it’s time-consuming and requires a lot of materials. It costs between $20,000 and $50,000 on average, depending on materials and labor costs. Before construction begins, it’s possible that purchasing land is the priciest step in the process. Some plots of land sell for $3,000, while others cost upwards of $150,000.

Modular homes are a type of prefab home. Specifically, manufacturers first build modular homes in sections and then deliver them to the job site. The modules, or sections, are usually at least 70% finished before they arrive on your property.

In comparison, prefab homes arrive in panels or segments, and workers assemble them on-site. Generally speaking, modular homes tend to be more durable, and their consistent construction standards may mean you’ll have an easier time getting conventional home loans.

Renovating or remodeling an existing structure is usually less expensive than the cost to build a new house. That’s because you can save on the costs of new building materials, laying a foundation, framing the entire building, and installing new materials and utilities throughout the house. However, if a home is in very poor condition or is incredibly old, you could spend more on upgrades and restoration compared to building from scratch.

Above all, the downside to building a new house is a longer timeline. You need several months to finish the build, depending on the supply chain and labor availability in the meantime. Building a home compared to buying one is also more expensive, both in the building process and when it comes to mortgage rates and property taxes.

Modular homes last an average of between 50 and 75 years, and high-quality modular homes can last for 100 years with proper maintenance. For comparison, a standard home lasts 50 to 100 years and can push to 150 or longer with good maintenance. Modular homes provide better long-term value in that they are significantly more affordable and can last almost as long, but some buyers are wary of modular home longevity, so the actual value if you sell could be lower.
