"Andrew is very professional in everything he does and communicates very well and in a timely manner. His work was done on time and even though the door had to be special ordered and had a long lead time, he kept me up to date on delivery schedule and installed the fire door shortly after it arrived. While waiting for the pre-painted door to ship, he completed each of the many other items. Following time of sale inspection, there were a few additional maintenance items that became evident and Andrew quickly provided an estimate and completed the work. I understand why Melon Man gets the service award, he works hard to earn it and I highly recommend him."

"Tony and his crew were the answer to my contracting problems! They worked at a timeline and a price point way beyond what other contractors were suggesting. Tony's communication is fantastic. and his crew is positive, friendly and professional. I am thrilled with my new front steps and decking (and even more thrilled to have gotten them in before winter), and I look forward to working with TC Handyman in the future. Enthusiastically recommend their services!!"

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, a chimney damper is necessary. It controls airflow in and out of your fireplace, helping to retain heat when closed and allowing smoke to escape when open. Without a damper, your home could lose warmth during cold months, leading to higher energy bills. It also helps prevent downdrafts and keeps animals or debris from entering the chimney. In short, it’s essential for efficiency and safety.

You can install your own fire door, but since it’s a safety measure in your home (and often the only way to passively slow down a fire), you should rely on professional door installers. These contractors know exactly what to do and how to do it, and in our opinion, their costs are worth every penny.

After a house fire, you should not reenter your home unless the fire crew has told you it’s safe to do so. In the longer term, you should not attempt to make repairs to the house on your own. Professional crews are trained to clean up after a fire (including smoke and soot damage), dry out any water damage from the firefighter crews, and make the necessary structural, plumbing, and electrical repairs—and this is all likely covered by insurance.

According to the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA), the leading cause of house fires is cooking accidents, followed by fires started by heating equipment. Electrical issues are the third most common cause of house fires. The best way to keep your home protected is to use caution when cooking and never leave a stove or oven unattended while in use. You can also keep up with chimney cleaning and avoid using space heaters to reduce the risk.

No, a chirping smoke alarm is usually a sign of an issue with the power supply of the unit. This is easily solved by replacing the battery to stop the smoke alarm from beeping. If the chirp continues, review the owner’s manual to determine the cause. These chirps are short and not as loud as the beeping of the alarm itself. If you can’t tell the difference, it’s best to treat it like an activated alarm until you find the cause.
