"I agree with the positive comments here. The key to Hal Morris's "garden structures" work is the "and more." He is really more of an architect than a deck builder, or an artist with a hammer rather than a brush. He works with the existing forms of your house and your own preferences to design a structure that works for you. He solves problems. Our problem: a too stark, too big back to our white stucco house. His solution: a pergola for shade vines, flower boxes with more latticework, and a wider deck with floating benches to sit on. Best of all, he works with you as you work out a solution together. I can't believe all that we got for the money."
Balancing aesthetics with functionality amidst space planning is important. To do so, you could consider consulting both an interior designer and an architect to fulfill both these needs. Or you can tackle it on your own by prioritizing personal touches amidst space planning that add to the look but don't take away from the livability of the space.
Mediterranean architecture comes from traditional building styles of countries on the Mediterranean Sea mixed with French, Greek, and Moroccan influences. There are three main types of Mediterranean architecture: Italian Renaissance, Spanish Revival, and modern.
Some signature components of Mediterranean architecture include red terra cotta roofs, archways, stucco siding, and metal detailing on windows. These homes often have balconies and outdoor living areas.
With proper training and experience, reading blueprints is fairly straightforward and not very difficult. If you don’t have the necessary knowledge to interpret the symbols, abbreviations, and other notations used, blueprints may not make sense. Learning to read blueprints can help you understand the construction process and keep you more involved and informed when you’re building a house.
Yes, architects specialize in both new construction and renovation projects, ensuring that additions blend seamlessly with existing structures while meeting safety standards.
Cathedral ceilings make a statement in your home, but at the cost of your attic space. Normal attics are wide open, which allows warm air to move around and exit your home. Because of this, cathedral ceilings make your home less energy efficient and put your ceiling at risk of venting issues if you’re not careful. They also reduce your attic storage space, potentially cause an echo, and even make it harder to change a light bulb.
