"We contacted Adams Pest Control for a problem wasp nest that I couldn't spray effectively. The technician who came out was Caitlin and she was outstanding. She was professional, efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. Not only did she take care of the nest I was aware of, she was thorough enough to find 2 more and took care of them as well. We had a really good experience with Adams due to Caitlin and wouldn't hesitate to hire them again. Well done!"

"I read reviews of home warranty companies before deciding to obtain a warranty when I purchased my new home. Since I got an older home with some aging appliances, it seemed likely that I would get my money's worth from a warranty, and strictly on that basis it has been worthwhile: I have made service calls related to my dryer, water heater, and furnace.
The way the home warranty works is that you call (or use the web site of) AHS to put in a request. They then send the request to one of their vendors, who call you to make an appointment -- or don't, and you have to call them. Generally it is not very fast turn-around, and often is several days to get an appointment.
Initial cost was about 360 for the warranty, and each service request has a flat fee of 75.
In the case of the dryer, the $75 flat-rate fee is probably similar to what I would have paid (around here, expensive SF Bay Area) for a handyman to make the same repair -- at worse, a wash.
In the case of the water heater, it was leaking badly and had to be replaced. This was theoretically covered by the home warranty, but it turned out they don't cover all the hardware that is needed to actually install a water heater, only the main unit. Basically, it ended up covering about half the cost, and I didn't have any say in the choice of the water heater brand or style. Not a terrible experience, but not what I had hoped.
In the case of the furnace, it has been a very long, drawn out process. First, the vendor assigned had no availability for more than a week. After several rounds back and forth with AHS, they assigned a different vendor, but I still ended up waiting 5 days with no heat -- partly because AHS could not just take my word for it that the vendor had no availability, and then I had to wait through a weekend so they could contact the vendor before assigning my case to a different one.
When the new vendor finally came, they failed to fix the problem -- three times. Each visit required at least a week to schedule. Now, I don't live in a part of the country where it gets very cold, so not having heat isn't life-threatening, but it is still uncomfortable. AHS was not particularly helpful in expediting the process. At one point, one of their representatives stated that their standard is 2 days for an appointment -- but they don't enforce that in any way. And if you want to switch to another vendor, you have to open a new case and therefore pay the fee again.
All in all, in a strictly financial sense I have gotten my money's worth. But the additional cost is inconvenience, wasted time, discomfort, annoyance, and loss of control (can't select vendor, can't select product).

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

Pest control and wildlife removal are different services. Pest control specialists typically handle insects and bugs, often using chemicals and poisonous sprays for extermination. Wildlife removal professionals, on the other hand, focus on larger animals. They prioritize humane methods like trapping and relocation, using poison only as a last resort. For insect problems, contact a pest control professional; for issues with other animals, an animal or wildlife removal specialist is the correct choice.

Professional pest control services for birds and bats prevent property damage, preserve health standards by avoiding the buildup of droppings, and ensure humane removal and prevention techniques.

Identifying the specific animal running on your roof at night can be challenging without direct observation. Common nocturnal roof visitors include raccoons, squirrels, opossums, and rats. Raccoons are bigger and can create heavy thumping sounds. Squirrels are agile and may produce rapid scurrying noises. Opossums tend to move stealthily with less noise. Rats can make scratching or gnawing sounds. To determine the culprit, look for signs like footprints, droppings, or damaged areas near the roof. For accurate identification, consult a pest control professional or set up wildlife cameras near potential entry points.

A treatment from a pest control service can last anywhere from 3 to 6 months, depending on the type of treatment, what pest it’s treating, and what environment you live in. This is why pest control service companies often offer packages where they come out multiple times a year to apply treatment to the outside or inside of your home.

Yes, predator decoys work to keep birds away, at least temporarily. However, if the decoy remains motionless in the same spot for a long enough time, the birds will eventually wise up and realize it's a fake. Keep changing the location of the predator decoy to ensure that the birds keep their guard up and maintain their distance.
