Emergency services offered

"(It went well except for an awful confusion.  I am having eye surgery, and contacted two cleaners via the List on Friday when my usual cleaner couldn't come.  I heard from one quite a bit, including over the weekend, and scheduled with them.  She updated me even as to time of arrival.
About 10 minutes before I was expecting them, two cleaners showed up and indicated they were ready for the job; they probably weren't clear what company they were with, as they were expecting to be there, and I was expecting a cleaner.  They had finished about half the house when the original cleaning service showed up.  So awful.  Anyway, I called the provider, and explained the situation and mixup.  She sent a couple more people over who worked on on floor while the others worked upstairs, and then came by herself to talk to me.
I found the cleaning to be good and very thorough.  All of the people were efficient and professional (though I might have caught the problem earlier had they been speaking English to one another, but that's hindsight).  The owner said she had learned a lesson, and so did I.  They did a fine job, despite the drama and confusion (not to mention the heat).

"Tom truly has a superior cleaning service. We had a living room, stairs, and two recliners cleaned and it was a terrific job. This was the third time we hired Tom and will do so again. The price was also very reasonable."

"My experience was great! It’s so nice to look out of clean windows. I didn’t realize just how dirty they were. I asked for additional cleaning to be done, he didn’t hesitate to include it."

Sonic Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The easiest way to remove snow from a roof involves using a roof rake that allows you to clear snow from the ground. Roof rakes are lightweight and feature adjustable handles, making them user-friendly for most people. This method also helps prevent ice dams and excess snow buildup, reducing the risk of roof damage during winter months.

When should you remove snow from your roof? A good rule of thumb is once six inches of snow accumulates.

It is not advisable to DIY a roof cleaning job. Cleaning your roof yourself could lead to hazardous falls, scrapes, and even burns, making this a dangerous project. Additionally, using the wrong cleaning solution or cleaning method on your roof could risk damaging it. While some markets offer a DIY roof cleaning kit, these products often speed up the deterioration of your roof.

To ensure that you and your roof are protected, it’s best to leave roof cleaning to a professional with the right chemicals, tools, and equipment to complete the job safely.

You should avoid using a pressure washer on any surface or item that could be damaged by the high-pressure spray, as some materials are too delicate to withstand the force.

Key items and surfaces to avoid include:

  • Electrical Components: Never pressure wash electrical systems, as water can cause short-circuits and create a safety hazard. This includes utility meters, breaker boxes, electrical outlets, generators, and HVAC or air conditioner units.

  • Delicate and Fragile Materials: Fragile items can crack, shatter, or be stripped by the pressure. Avoid pressure washing windows, glass, light fixtures, shingled roofs (especially asphalt), and stucco.

  • Painted, Stained, or Sealed Surfaces: Unless your goal is to strip the finish, do not pressure wash painted surfaces, stained wood (like decks), or anything with a protective seal that could be stripped away. Be especially cautious with older surfaces that may contain lead paint.

  • Soft Woods and Certain Decking: Delicate surfaces like softwood, composite decking, and antique or wooden patio furniture can be etched or damaged. If you must wash wood, use a lower-powered pressure washer with a wide-angle nozzle to prevent damage.

  • Living Things: Never use a pressure washer on people, pets, or plants. The force can cause serious injury and will destroy landscaping.

It is a bad idea to try to walk on a roof with snow on it. In fact, you should stay off your roof all year long, even when it is dry and sunny outside. There are too many things that can go wrong, and one misstep can cause serious injury or even death.

Rather, if you need to get something done on your roof, call in a pro. They have the right experience and know-how to get things done safely on a snowy roof, including snow removal.

To prolong the lifespan of a slate roof, perform regular maintenance. This includes conducting annual inspections to check for damaged or broken tiles and addressing any minor issues promptly. Clean the gutters regularly, remove any overhanging tree branches, and ensure the flashing remains intact to prevent leaks. For comprehensive care, consider scheduling periodic professional inspections.
