Mildew grows into porous wood, making it more difficult to remove than regular dirt (and more destructive). Use the lowest level of pressure for power washing vinyl, or hire a siding professional to do it.

This is a tricky answer because how fast you work, how large your team is, and what type of siding you install will all determine your total time. One person placing bricks around an entire house can take weeks, but a team of 10 could complete the job in just a few days. Installing siding is a job that’s best done by a pro, as they are experienced and will perform solid work. A rough guideline for DIYers is to budget 15 minutes per square foot of siding.

Siding lasts for between 20 and 40 years, at a minimum, but the lifespan you’ll see from your new siding depends on the type. Vinyl and aluminum siding have average lifespans of 20 to 40 years, while wood and real stone siding can last up to 75 years. Steel and fiber cement siding can last even longer and often have a minimum lifespan of 50 years. The climate and weather in your area play important roles in siding lifespan.

The biggest con of insulated vinyl siding is that it’s more expensive than traditional vinyl siding. If you’re hoping to save costs on your siding project, you’ll have better luck finding budget-friendly vinyl siding, which can cost as little as $2 per square foot, installed.
