"We loved the sales associate we worked with at the store - Mary - who helped us assess the different options for cork flooring they offered. After meeting with them, they had someone come and measure the space, and provided a written quote over email for the project. Originally we had hoped to do the entire upper half story along with the staircase, and we liked the product Unique Wood Floors offers because it was possible to use the same material for the stairs. However, the total quote for stairs + upstairs flooring came to $8681 which was over what we had budgeted for the project. We decided to sand and paint the stairs ourselves, which were in pretty good condition, and only have the cork put in upstairs, and they provided us a new quote that was in line with what we could spend. We had to follow up after the materials arrived once to set the schedule, but the company was responsive over email and everything was straightforward. The installers were timely and polite. We love our cork floors, and it's been a great surface for the room as our baby learns to walk since we are using the space as a playroom. It cleans up easily and dampens sound. The only disappointment was the baseboards (which to be fair is not their specialty). The joins are a little sloppy and misaligned, and were scuffed/dirty from the install, so we'll have to paint them eventually. I would definitely use Unique Wood Floors again for flooring, but I would probably work with a different contractor for trim. Also to be fair, we didn't bring any complaints to the company about the baseboards, mostly because I was 8 months pregnant at the time of the project and just anxious to have it checked off. Based on the other interactions I would imagine they would have been responsive."

As the owner I have been debating on starting a construction company or not for many years. I have over 15 years experience on construction and a vision to complete projects. I grew up in the construction field with my grandpa owning his own construction company learning the tricks of the trades from him to owning my own Landscape business that I sold a few years ago. ( which was a Angie's list award wining company.) I am excited to get into building homes and remodeling homes to peoples dream we will work with any budget and help you get to your dreams as quick as we can. You will barely find some one so up front and honest about your project.

FAQs for flooring projects in Minneapolis, MN

The cost of flooring installation is $3,000 for the average homeowner. This cost can range from $1,500 to $4,500, depending on the project size, flooring material, and any special features. For example, if stairs need new flooring, you can expect to pay about $11 to $160 per step. Additionally, hardwood flooring costs significantly more than linoleum, with hardwood ranging from $6 to $22 per square foot and linoleum costing $3 to $7 per square foot.

Believe it or not, adding new flooring—especially floors like hardwood, laminate, tile, or vinyl—can add significant value to your home. If you update your flooring close to when you sell your home, you can see up to a 70% ROI on your new floors. Adding new flooring to your home is one of the quickest ways to make the whole room look refreshed and new, which is a positive point for selling.

While you certainly can install new flooring yourself, it may not always be the best idea. Since the condition of the floors is a significant component of your property’s value, it’s important that your project looks professionally done. If not, you run the risk of needing to have them replaced again before selling your home. If you’re looking to save money on the cost of floor installation, consider removing the old flooring yourself to save on labor costs.

When it comes to flooring installers, licensing laws vary from state to state. Even if your state doesn’t require your flooring installer to have a license, your municipality or city might, so it’s a good idea to check with your town before getting started. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines.

Hiring an unlicensed flooring installer could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

It takes about one to three days for a two-person crew to lay 800 to 1,000 square feet of flooring daily. Remember that removal of existing flooring and additional prep work is considered during this time, and it’s likely that you won’t be able to pass through the room easily. In addition, you can expect lots of hammering and other noise from power tools during installation, so it’s best to plan accordingly.
