"I bought an Angie's List deal from All Day Haul Away for $99 (prepaid); they said by phone that my oversized piece would probably require an extra charge. Four months later when I called for a pickup, it was made by a business called Junk Genius (a subcontractor of All Day Haul Away?). Junk Genius's standard charge is $95, slightly less than the cost of the Angie's List deal I had already paid. Junk Genius said nothing about the load being oversized. Next time, I would try calling Junk Genius first."

"They did an excellent job of stripping the basement of all the paneling and ancient fiber board ceiling tile. They removed everything. It turned out much better than expended!"

"We determined that the tree needed to be removed ASAP. I called All Season's Tree Service on Monday morning and asked for an estimate. Larry came later in the morning and gave us an estimate. We did not receive timely bids from the others we asked. The estimate we received from Larry was reasonable. We said we would like to go ahead with All Season's. The next morning, Tuesday, three men came with their equipment. They went about their work in a very professional manner. The tree was methodically removed with no damage to our property! Cleanup was fantastic!! You would hardly know there had been a tree in our front yard. I would highly recommend All Season's Tree Removal!!!"

"I used Weylin's services last week. He is a fine young man that provides a wonderful service for a very reasonable price. He took many items that absolutely needed to go including a huge refrigerator and a large microwave. He takes them to the proper place to be recycled responsibly. He charged a very reasonable amount above the cost of what the recycling amount is. He did the loading onto his dumpster for me. He is awesomely fair. I had a last minute addition to the removal and he honestly told me after he found out what it would cost to recycle the huge microwave (it was above my stove) and that I may want to hang onto it because the cost to him was $48⁰⁰. I needed it gone so I told him that was okay and he charged me, what I thought, was a very small amount of money over that. Keeping in mind that he is spending gas, time, recuperation of the cost of the dumpster he owns, and maintenance of the truck he uses to pull the dumpster is important when you hear his prices because it is surprisingly low and that doesn't include the actual service he provides for you! You cannot go wrong with Weylin. I more than highly recommend and endorse him!"

Garbage Collection questions, answered by experts

Continuous feed garbage disposals are the favorite model for many homeowners for a reason. As opposed to batch feed models, add food scraps to the drain whenever the disposal is running. This variety is also typically less expensive, more convenient, and easier to clean.

On average, it takes one to four hours for a professional to install a garbage disposal. This includes removing the old unit, taking necessary measurements for positioning, removing and fitting new pipes, and installing the brand-new disposal system. If there are unforeseen issues, such as accessibility concerns, the process takes longer.

In some cases, it’s more cost-effective in the long run to replace a garbage disposal, but it depends on the specific issue you’re having and the age of your disposal. You should ask a garbage disposal repair tech for a quote to repair your appliance and then see if it would be more worthwhile to replace it. Additionally, garbage disposals last for around 15 years, so if you know your appliance is reaching that age, it’s likely better to pay for a new garbage disposal rather than sink money into repairs.

These appliances certainly increase the number of things allowed down the drain, but they’re not foolproof. There are several items you shouldn’t put in your garbage disposal, according to manufacturers and technicians. Don’t put coffee grounds down the drain. The same goes for eggshells, potato peels, hard foods, onion skins, and any dry, expandable food. Most importantly, never put grease or oils down the drain.

If your garbage disposal powers up and you can hear it hum, but the arms inside aren’t moving, the problem might be a stubborn clog, a build-up of grease, or a jam of the impeller plate. To troubleshoot these, ensure your unit is off and disconnected from its power source before checking inside the drain or attempting to manually rotate the impeller arms or plate from the underside of the unit. A hex wrench can help.
