"Dan stepped outside the box. While he is a cabinet maker, he answered my inquiry about refinishing a family heirloom table. We talked and met, he eagerly accepted the challenge. I can recommend his service with no hesitation. I am 100% satisfied."

"We had a built in wall cabinet in our basement that was somewhat outdated, as it was one that had a specific contained area that only allowed for a smaller TV. We were looking to knock out all the extra shelving and modify it to fit a large TV. After speaking with Darren and Danielle (office manager), Darren came out for an estimate a day later. After getting a few estimates, I decided to go with TCH, based on their response time, reasonable pricing, and solid reviews. Couldn't have made a better choice. There was a little confusion when their tech came out as to what exactly we wanted done to the built in, but after a little explaining, everyone was on the same page. John was timely, professional, and most importantly, did extremely high quality work. The final result was absolutely perfect - better than I imagined. He was able to match the color of the cabinet to the wood/trim he added in, and made sure everything was done exactly how we envisioned. The job took about 2 days, and he cleaned up promptly after everything was wrapped up. From start to finish, I couldn't have asked for anything more. It looks fantastic, and I would not hesitate to recommend TCH to anyone. Would 100% use them again in the future. Thank you for the great work Darren and John! Can't wait to get the new TV up"

Cabinet Making questions, answered by experts

It’s much less expensive to build your own garage shelves, and you’ll still get stable, long-lasting, and sharp-looking shelves. Garage storage systems cost between $615 and $2,635, with the national average of about $1,455. Building DIY garage shelves typically costs less than $500, and the quality of a DIY garage shelving unit will almost always be higher than what you could buy premade for the equivalent price.

There’s no strict rule about which way cabinet doors should open, but generally, double cabinet doors should open away from each other. With single doors, you want to avoid having them block your path or swing into  areas where people need to stand. Some kitchens are angled so that cabinet doors may crash into something no matter which way they swing, but the methods above can help prevent damage.

If you're looking for ways to save money on custom cabinets, there are a few ways to cut costs without sacrificing beauty. For starters, comparing door styles to choose the most cost-effective option is a great way to save money on the overall project.

In addition, choosing a common wood species versus an exotic one will lower the price. Woods like oak and hickory are often more affordable wood choices, and the same goes for knobs, pulls, and other finishes where picking a commonly available style can reduce costs.

There are three primary ways to attach upper kitchen cabinets to a wall, and installers may use more than one method at a time. The most common method is to drive screws through the back of the cabinets and into studs in the wall behind. Sometimes cabinets are glued to the wall with strong adhesive. Often a combination of screws and adhesive is desirable. The last way is by hanging the cabinets on hardware brackets that attach to the wall before cabinet installation.

In many homes, upper cabinets are installed with a 1- to 2-foot gap between the tops and the ceiling. However, many homeowners extend their cabinets to the ceiling to gain extra storage and a polished, built-in look.
