We are a family-owned small business located in Little Falls, Minnesota. We pride ourselves on hard-work and results, values which were instilled in us by two generations of a family-owned construction business that has helped build and maintain many of the buildings found in the Little Falls area today. "Dust busters were absolutely amazing! We had never had the ducts cleaned since we moved in in 2913 and who knows if the previous owners had. They were prompt, professional and did a great good on our really really bad ducts and dryer vent. Then they recommended a look at the refrigerator coils and those were pretty bad too. So glad we got this done. They had a great coupon deal on Bbay and were less than half the cost of other companies I called in the area."

Dryer Vent Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Dryer vents need thorough cleanings one or two times a year, depending on family size and how often you run the machine. Failing to do so can put your home at an increased risk of fire. You should also schedule special cleanings if you notice that your dryer is taking longer to dry than normal, if you see lint building up on the outside flapper or in the vent itself, if you notice your dryer vent leaking water, or if your clothes have an odd odor on them after going through a drying cycle.

Using a leaf blower to clean your dryer vent isn't a good idea. Theoretically, the leaf blower should push the lint and debris toward the exterior vent opening, helping it exit. That's usually not what happens, though. 

Instead, the lint can get stuck further in the vent, creating a blockage and making the problem worse. You need a scrubbing tool, such as the rotating brush head on a dryer cleaning kit, to push the lint out of the ductwork.

Clean lint traps, check hoses for wear, and avoid overloading to extend their lifespan.

You will know if your dryer is overheating by placing your hand on top to feel its temperature. If it’s hot to the touch, that’s a clear sign the dryer is overheated. Other signs include your laundry coming out hotter than usual, a burnt smell when it’s running, or burn marks on your laundry.

Taking good care of your dryer will help ensure its longevity and keep your clothes nice and dry. Some dryer maintenance tips include:

  • Clearing the lint screen after every use

  • Deep cleaning the lint screen with detergent every three months

  • Don’t overload your dryer

  • Cleaning the dryer vent at least once a year

  • Cleaning the dryer drum twice a year with a microfiber cloth and rubbing alcohol
