"Nolan is very receptive to design choices/changes along the way. A workers schedule was sent to me, so I knew what was going on for the week. All the trades were very nice and their work was cleaned up everyday. Basement project exceeds my expectations! Thanks Nolan and team!"

"It appears that the written communication through Angies List Messaging my phone number was left out so the handyman didn't have my number to call that he was running late.  I had no problem with this as I am often late...I understand completely. Purchase of 4 hours for handyman turned out to be approximately 3hours with the installation of screen door and modifying the other screen door in the breezeway.  With the left over time on the job, I had a few more items for him to try to attend to but only really had time for him to check out a light bulb in the basement closet. Which upon inspection-he suggested that it would need more time and an electritians expertise. With only less than a half hour left before my planned appointment after the 4 hours of handyman service, I had to run and the handyman had no more time to begin anything else so he was finished for me. If I had had another hour as planned, I would have maybe tried another small project. I would like to take advantage of this type of deal again in the future.

RESPONSE TO Providers Response to my Original Review: Thank you for any clarification on the electrical and I do understand. Thank you.

"Dan is awesome to work with. His attention to every detail is amazing. He worked diligently with me (thru Pinterest) to come up with a design. He offered suggestions that we found very helpful. He s super personable, easy to work with. I texted and called him around the clock. I would hire him again in a heart beat! We will call him for all our projects in the future."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Egress windows or doors are required in finished basements to meet safety and building codes. If your basement is unfinished and used as a storage space, egress windows are not required, but anything considered a habitable space must have an additional point of egress in addition to the stairs.

It is common for a contractor to ask for a down payment before starting a project, especially for jobs that require purchasing materials and equipment or hiring a crew. The deposit amount can range from 10% to 50% of the total job cost. While a request for up to 50% is not unusual, a contractor should not ask for more than that, and you should never pay for a project in full before the work has begun. To protect yourself, always discuss payment terms before starting and have a written contract that outlines the project timeline and expectations. Additionally, be sure to hire reputable contractors and check their licensing and insurance before the project begins.

Anything having to do with the structure of your home, such as raising the ceiling, is usually the most expensive part of finishing a basement. Another project component that could be a surprisingly high expense is adding an exterior entrance.

The cost of a walkout basement can be anywhere from $5,000 to $35,000.

The difficulty of adding a basement to an existing house can vary depending on the house’s location, the size of the basement, and the type and condition of the existing foundation. Adding a basement is a job best handled by the pros, so you’ll need to enlist professional help for this project.

If you don’t have a crawl space but have a partial basement you want to make deeper, you can expect to spend a little less—between $40,000 and $90,000 on average. However, if you’re not adding new finished square footage, you won’t see much in the way of ROI.
