"Jose Gutierrez exceeded my expectations in every way. His attention to detail, care for our home as if it were his own, and quiet humor are remarkable. His price is below what others quoted me. He is fast yet never careless. And he's someone I quickly grew to trust deeply, which is important when you're spending days on end together. He first transformed our new-to-us home that had wildly different colored (poorly painted at that) walls and doors. They now look fresh, new, and welcoming. Months later we brought him back to paint the house and garage. Looks like a new home! He & his team are truly wonderful."

"Professional painting with a quick response time, attention to detail, and a fair price. Victor and Edwin painted my house to prepare for market and did a beautiful job. They walked through the house with me, gave a fair quote; and did the work the same day. Highly recommend. Top notch customer service and communication and superior quality work."

Customers say: True professional

"We hired Davids Painting to clean and restain our 2 level deck. Each level is 10' X 20" with cedar shake wall along the lower level. They were professional, thorough and kept us informed on the progress of the project. They kept the area clean and neat all the while they were here and were very pleasant to work with. I would give Davids Painting a 5 Star Review and would reccomend them to anyone."

"Hired this company to help update my kitchen cabinets. The owner was very good to work with, very accommodating and the crew were amazing! They kept the areas around them cleaned up and respected the home. The cabinets turned out incredible. Very nice finish, they look like glass they are so perfect! Added 2 rooms to be painted which both were done timely and again clean and professional and last had them update our wood fence. Needed to be pressure washed, stained and sealed. Again a great job done. No complaints. Would highly recommend this company for any needs you are needing around the house. Hard to find professional, clean and all around good people and this company had it all! Will be using them again in the future."

Painting questions, answered by experts

Applying a sealer or topcoat after staining wood is highly recommended, though not always strictly required. A sealer protects the wood from moisture, UV rays, and weather-related issues, which is especially important for outdoor surfaces like decks and fences. It also enhances the stain's durability, prevents fading over time, and gives the wood a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. For some indoor applications, a sealer may not be necessary, depending on the type of stain used and the level of protection needed. It's always best to check the stain manufacturer's recommendations and consider the wood's intended use and exposure when deciding whether to apply a sealer.

For homes in areas with extreme weather, high heat, or intense sun exposure, high-quality acrylic paint is the best option. Acrylic paint is durable, resistant to both heat and cold, and provides a protective barrier with excellent UV resistance. For best results, look for acrylics that contain natural earth pigments, which are better suited for resisting sun damage. While oil-based paint is also durable, it can be prone to fading in high heat and can become too viscous to apply easily in cold temperatures. Additionally, choosing a neutral or light color like gray, beige, or white can help, as these colors absorb less heat than darker shades.

A five-gallon bucket of deck stain will cover roughly 875 square feet in a single coat. Actual coverage will vary based on the type of wood you’re staining and the number of coats. If you plan on doing multiple coats, multiply the square footage by the number of coats to calculate how many buckets of stain you’ll need.

Wood stain is not flammable after it dries. The solvent in wood stain is what causes the liquid form to be highly flammable, but the stain drying process involves the solvents dissolving, which leaves behind a non-flammable product on your wood project. Wood stain is, however, flammable before you apply it, so you should always store partially full cans and used wood stain rags away from sources of heat and open flames.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.
