"Exactly as the same as the first time I air sealed my attic in my previous house. Last year when we decided to sell our house I was inspecting my house as I would have if I was purchasing it. I noticed a small (1/4") gap between the master bathroom vent fan grill and the ceiling. I could not adjust it. Upon further inspection I realize it was because the foam that was installed when my attic was air sealed had expanded creating the 1/4" gap. I had that work done two years prior by Houle Insulation. I contacted Arne and inquired if he had any suggestions. His only suggestion was that he would correct the problem. Two days later he had two workers in my attic correcting the issue. Just like the first time, they were prompt and cleaned up after the work. I offered to pay, he would not have it. He said he should have noticed when the job was originally completed two years prior. There was no discussion or haggling, he simply said he would correct it. As impressed as I was with the lower energy bill, I was more impressed with how he and his team comported themselves. Also my house was more comfortable because the temperature was more uniform within my house. This year when we moved into our new house, built in 1992, the first thing I did was call Arne to air seal the attic. My choice of whom to hire for air sealing my attic was a no brainer, Houle Insulation. They also performed a blower door test. They also sent in all the information required for me to receive an energy rebate from my utility company. The best recommendation I can make is that when I decided to air seal our new home the first person I called was Arne. He made a wise decision to correct what needed with correcting without any questions. He did what should have been done, and therefore he got my repeat business and I was happy to give my business to him!"

"I needed insulation work done in my attic. Insulation Inc. was GREAT from first contact through follow up. Carlos contacted me immediately upon my requesting a phone call and came out ASAP to look at the project. He proposed an effective, cost-saving approach to the job and promptly sent me an estimate that evening. The quote was very good, very fair, and I accepted. Then, he arranged to have the work done within a couple days. The crew was here yesterday and were excellent; good communicators, friendly, clean, mindful, and efficient. The quality of their work was superb. Having worked with many contractors during my days, I couldn't have expected the project to go as well as it did. If you're looking for a home insulation provider, look no further than Insulation Inc."

"I recently had the pleasure of working with Koala Insulation of St. Paul for the installation of 4 inches of spray foam insulation in my garage attic, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the results. From the outset, Koala Insulation impressed me with their professionalism and expertise. Their team was punctual, arriving on time for the initial consultation and installation. They took the time to explain the benefits of spray foam insulation, including its superior air sealing properties and energy efficiency compared to traditional insulation materials. This thorough approach gave me confidence in my decision. On installation day, the crew was efficient and respectful of my home. They came fully prepared with all the necessary equipment, and I appreciated their attention to cleanliness. They took care to cover areas that needed protection, minimizing any mess during the installation process. The actual application of the spray foam was quick and straightforward, and the team worked collaboratively to ensure a high-quality finish. After the installation, the team provided useful guidance on maintaining the insulation and what to expect in terms of performance. They made themselves available for any follow-up questions, which shows their commitment to customer satisfaction even after the job was completed. I highly recommend Koala Insulation of St. Paul for anyone considering an insulation project, including upgrading or replacing your current fiberglass insulation. "Aaron was so helpful from the get go. We had two other attic insulation companies assess our issues when we had mold and water damage along the outside joists of the house. He was very knowledgeable and through and got the the causes of the issue. eRoof cleared out the plugged up soffets, sealed them, put in the needed baffling, and brought the blown in insulation up to the new code. Aaron had connections and we were able to get very efficient peers of his to do the mold removal, dry wall replacement, and painting. I would highly recommend this company and Aaron in particular. He was available to answer questions and help me think through this complex project."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Yes, a one-story house can have a load-bearing wall. The load-bearing walls in a single-story home are usually the exterior walls. If the house has a basement with exposed walls, the arrangement of the beams can help indicate what walls are load-bearing.

There are a few ways to figure out if your walls are plaster or drywall, but the pushpin method is probably the easiest option. To try it, choose a part of your wall where you can insert a pushpin or thumbtack without leaving an obvious mark. If it goes in easily, you have drywall. But if the wall is tough to penetrate, that’s plaster.

Venetian plaster is a highly durable wall finish that becomes a rock-like substance once dried, making it last longer than most other wall finishes. Its lifespan can range from decades to centuries, potentially lasting a lifetime. Key factors influencing its longevity include the quality of the initial application, whether it's properly sealed against moisture, and how the wall is maintained and treated (e.g., how often it is touched or bumped). Due to its mineral content, it can also develop a patina over time.

Yes, if there is mold in your drywall mud and you then use it to build walls in your house—or if mold develops in your set drywall, like it can in hot and humid areas—it can lead to illness. Mold in your drywall (or other parts of your home) can make existing respiratory conditions or allergies worse, and the effect can be more intense for those who have existing health issues or compromised immune systems.

There are six levels of drywall finish, from 0 to 5, that refer to the amount of work performed during the finishing process.

Level 0: Drywall is hung with no finishing work.

Level 1: Tape is placed over the seams between drywall sheets.

Level 2: A thin layer of mud is applied over the tape and screw holes. This level is common for utility rooms or walls that will be covered.

Level 3: A full coat of mud covers the screw holes and tape, but the surface is not sanded. This is often used in garages.

Level 4: This is the most common finish for visible interior walls. It involves applying two coats of mud over seams and screw holes, with sanding between each coat, creating a smooth surface ready for flat paint.

Level 5: This is a high-end finish for luxury homes. It includes full taping, mudding, and sanding, plus a final skim coat over the entire surface before painting.
